Rome lasted for over a thousand years. More if you count the Byzantine Empire as well.

Rome did, but it wasn't an empire the entire time. It was an Empire for roughly 500 years. That's almost 500 years of instability.

Only because they killed Julius Caesar. His death brought an end to the republic. Google has yet to suffer an assassination of their Julius Caesar counterpart.

Which means they are very much unlike the Roman Empire and completely stable. Therein rests my point.

They look good but I think it is a bit premature to say they are a match for the big G

Yes agree it is beta but don't you think they should first focus on the algo behind it...or are you just thinking that'll come when it goes live...it won't.

Its slick as hell but the point is good results and if that is the goal of the 'search engine' they are failing and failing hard but you should already know this because you have tested it...and I don't just mean with searching your name.

i don't see it is required to register to use it, simply beta dot searchme dot com, and poof, the result inspire me. Really futuristic look with flippy 3d result, and very similar result out(accurate i think).

I dont think they will make a big change. They seem to be in beta for a long time now. And all this enter your email smells like potential spam to me.

Although this website looks unique because it shows us the template designs of website that rank there but the fact is, it gives poor relevancy when I try to search for some competitive keywords. People love simplicity, maybe SearchMe should focus more on relevancy and simplicity rather than showing each website's template design to its users.

I actually found this search engine quite useful with pretty high quality results and I like the scroll function to preview sites. To the critics that did not like it, I think it really just depends on what exactly you are searching for. If you are looking for a SEO tutorial or a Wordpress plugin than the screenshots are useless but if you are looking for something more visual like a models site or social networking site or something than I like this much better than Google. Is it a google-killer. No, not at present and like was said if it threatens them they will throw buckets of money at them to buy it out but i can see this site getting into the top of the second tier SE's above say hotbot or lycos pretty easily. Thier results are much more relevant than those two sites IMHO.

Wow... this has NOT much potential to go anywhere.

Honestly, no offense to the inovations made by these companies, but this is just pointless.
A flash view of the sites frontpage's screenshot... big deal, google can come up with that in a week or less. In fact someone can simply google google_engine and a google API and make that for free.

Google is simple and effective. That's what is there to beat. Fancy animations and looks will never threat google's efficiency, they are embarrassing.

Thanks for this great post, I had given up hope that a new browser would ever challenge Google. I know it's still very early but after using the beta version of SearchMe.com I was extremely impressed. The user interface is amazing and very friendly. Plus you have the options to flip through images of the websites right after you enter your keyword. If you haven't tried it out for yourself yet, what are you waiting for?
