Has Google Killed Adsense?

When I was starting out doing some dabbling in online marketing I stumbled on a guide about people making thousands of dollars a month with Adsense. I thought, man, this is the way to go. I will set up some sites, put some Adsense on the sites, write a few articles, and just sit back and watch the money roll in. It never happened. And I wonder about those guys that were selling the Adsense courses and talking about all the money they were raking in...are they still?

My experience was that I never made that much money from Adsense, and Google has placed all kind of restrictions on MFA (Made For Adsense) sites. That said, I have 30 sites. Some are sparse and you could call them MFA sites. Then I have three or four sites that have Amazon stores on them as well as Adsense adverts. What I have found is that the sites with better content and with stores and affiliate products (I use Clickbank) make the most money. In other words, the sites that I do more work on make more money.

What I do now is mostly write content and copy for other people... and whenever I have down time I work on one of my sites. When I get it looking really nice and having some decent traffic, I auction it on Flippa. What I have discovered is that if you put the work into a site and have fun with it, when you go to sell it people are willing to pay thousands of dollars. An MFA site I recently put up for auction sold for a whopping $6. (I'd set no reserve because I was just tired of the site.) But one of the one's I'd played with for years when I wasn't writing content on Fiverr and other places sold for $5,000. Neithe site did that much Adsense because of the changes in Google, but the one that had depth made money for me in the sale.

People want to see Adsense, affiliate stuff, and eBay or Amazon stores on a website. If they do, and you can show them $5-10 dollars a month of Adsense revenue and lots of posts that are relevant...and traffic, they will pay a lot.

What does anyone else think? Has Google killed Adsense? Is Adsense enough?

Before 2009, it was too easy too earn thousands of dollars from Adsense through different platform of sites like MFA, Niches sites, etc... But now Google had took some decisions that are really strict to stop fraudulent clicks or any illegal activities. Thats the reason people nowadays are not getting accepted by Adsense and some of them are really struggling hard to earn..

I still make $300 average per month from adsense. My site has around 500 unique visitors every day. I am not working more on this site for past 4 years and its still making money for past 4 years. So adsense is not dead for me. But of course earnings have gone down. It was around $500 last year every month. In fact amazon don't make any money for me. Lot visitors go to amazon from my site but hardly anyone purchase something from amazon.

Why would Google kill adsense when it brings money for Google?

It's all about the content on the site and the buyers at Flippa seeing the site has a number one page ranking at Google, is making money on Adsense, Amazon, Affiliates or somewhere, and has a lot of unique visits per month. If you take a look at the sites selling in Flippa that sell for a lot, they all have documented performance. Nice looking sites with no traffic stats and no income verified rarely sell for more than $50 or not at all. The site has to show it has made money and is not just a clone with duplicate content. MFA sites only sell well if they can show results.

I think it is all about efforts you put in the more efforts you put the more reward you will get. I personally think adsense is enough.

Billy you might be right about Adsense being enough. But I like having at a minimum an Amazon store on any sites I set up. It does not take that long to set one up. That said, I know that some people advise that having the Adsense alone gets people that are shopping for a specific item to click an ad. In that case, just product reviews and comparisons probably work best. I have heard that some sites can get thousands of dollars a month in Adsense revenue, but this has never been so for my sites. More likely they will make a dollar or two a month. Some bring in nothing some months. I have 30 sites but I think to make good money on Adsense you probably need 100-200 sites. Do you agree?

Well I guess Adsense sucks sometimes and yes for the last six months Adsense has been harsh on publishers from across the globe

I have to agree. Google is making a lot of money...but publishers really have to work hard to figure it out. I wonder if anyone is able to do as well as they did several years ago? My guess is NO.

In 2011 I earned on adsense about 1000 EURos/monthly on 4 websites only, so it`s possible (even much more I know the people who earned 100 times more than me on that) but this year everything was dropped a lot in SERPs and I`ve lost it. So In my opinion AdSense is not worth of the effort because to earn that 1000 EUROs/month I had to bring about 200,000 uniqe visitors a month to my websites but this what I get in return wasn`t impressed me, my CPC was between 0,01 - 0,03 I never got more than 0,05 CPC. I know it`s maybe a matter of the content I had (flash games websites) but I saw better clicks in my stats sometimes but everytime when I expirienced that I saw very strange behaviour of Google :) If I earned for example 2 EUROs click it was dissapeared after couple of minutes and every time when I saw a better click was happen the same, Google never allow me to earn more than 0,01 -0,05 EUR per click even if the better AD was clicked o my site, what does it mean ?
I think Google stole high paid clicks to their own pocket, Is there anyone who can check that on the Google`s side ? I don`t think so, so they can do what they want with us :)
I don`t know anyone who have had higher than 0,10 EUR CPC ,so the 10-20$ CPC is a dream only Google wants we belive it can happen, to work harder, harder and harder in bringing them more visitors...

So if anyone think it`s possible to earn good money with AdSense I can say - YES but it needs a lot more effort than any other kind of business. It`s wasting of time in my opinion, the time anyone of us can involve into a lot better business.

Excellent post. I'd say you have explained the bottom line about Adsense. It can be labor intensive to get and maintain the kind of traffic you describe, 20,000 unique visitors a month. As far as Google taking clicks, I don't know about that. I am sure there is some kind of algorithm responsible for that. I have also seen clicks disappear, or clicks that yield zero income. I've not figured that out yet. Does anyone know why that might occur?
