As long as your ROI is high, get more from sales than what you pay for advertising, no one will think it has become expensive, it's the big fishes out there which have changed the game because they can afford to absorb the costs, leaving the small fishes to get electrified when they get the G bill.

Hello Jamie, Google has very big competition against keywords now-a-days. So it is general that they must cost high price for a chosen keywords. I think you should try other PPC programs instead of google adwords..........

Just had my account banned. I have tried ad center low impressions and no clicks. Protect your account at all costs. There is no better application than adwords

its depend on the keyword you use and the competition on this keywords, if there is big traffic of searchers than the price will be low but if the traffic is low than prices are normally very high.

One other reason why its expensive is that it can provide far more traffic than any other advertising company. I recently ran a ad campaign on Adwords and Microsoft Adcenter, using same info, and the the Adwords campaign sent 12 times as many visitors.

It all depends on the campaign and the ROI structure you are looking for .

Granted that the more competitive keywords are considerably expensive, but I agree with Komrad that a proper keyword research would make all the difference in how much you invest in your Google Adwords campaign.

As with the organic listings, we all want the top spot. That's where you are more visible therefore get more clicks and more sales (because of more clicks but also because the higher positions usually have a higher conversion rate). Since Google is by far the most popular search engine today, it makes sense to advertise there. There are more competitors for that reason and since there are more, all wanting to get to the top so it may cost more. Remember that WE are the ones driving the prices up, not Google itself. What you pay partly depends on what others bid.

Because there's a large inventory that can be quickly and easily filled up, Google will not think twice about banning you if you don't follow their rules. In fact, the quality of their product goes up which is exactly what they want and they make more money as a result. Unfortunately, too many don't understand that point.

    Hello guys,

My boss gave me a chance to run the adwords ppc campaign for our company. We do custom web development, design and 3d design in Chicago. So I used Google's keyword tool and estimator to find the best variants for the campaign. But I didn't understand one thing - why does Google's estimator tool show me "0 clicks" result for those keywords which have a big amount of monthly searches in Google's keywords tool?
For example I choose this keyword "custom website development", it has 1000 exact match searches, and traffic estimator says that there will be 0 clicks on it.
    Why it happens?

What are the better variants for this sphere of activity?

Well, what i would say is , it all depends on competition . If the targeted keyword is of higher competition, then it would surely be expensive for small business advertisers.

There is definitely a science to it, but Adwords can still turn a huge profit.
To those who say it's terrible for small business - try to keep it local.

Google Adwords can be insanely expensive - especially when you get it wrong! Advertising with bad quality scores and you'll hardly be able to compete. So it depends. The point is you can't go into it amateaurish anymore. You got to know what you are doing!

It feels expensive starting out a new business. I assume after we get some work it will be easier to absorb the cost per click. But at $2 a click I have to be super careful on the negative keywords.
