Hey guys I was just wondering if you think having links in the signiture of your digital point posts has helped with the SERPs ranking in google?

Personally I think it does what do you guys think?

In the past I have created a few long tail targeted pages that have gotten SEO value solely from DP links and they made me quite a bit of money. In the past year or so Google has started devaluing forum signatures even more than in the past as they continue to weight content links far higher.

I don't know whether my search engine standings have increased due to DP, but I do receive a nice chunk of traffic from DP each day!

i mostly use it to get my new sites indexed faster. google throws all my forum posts from this and other forums in the below category so i don't think it makes too much of a difference in SERPS.

"In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 8 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included."

DP signature link set as nofollow but they still giving us +++++ serp help.

They have always helped me in the past, and I've even had a brand new site and domain, thrown up a sig link on a good forum account, and had a PR 4 right away with nothing else. I thought Google had been penalizing DP though? I heard from some people that it can hurt your google rankings now... Wasn't sure what to think... Anyone really know cold hard up to date facts?

Yep.. DP sig links can help.. but too much outgoing links in a given thread produces less link juice.

If you have very little or no other links, it may help a bit, but that's it. Forum sigs are certainly no links you should rely on.

Sure, a link is a link, but over the past years google has become pretty clever and the effect of most free for all link generation methods (article directories, directories, social bookmarking, guestbook post, blog comments, forum sigs, etc.) has decreased constantly.

    Not really at this time..

but it never hurts because DP forum has million of pages hit everyday, it's never wrong to have signature, at least, that drives some traffic and probably some ads and some affiliate clicks if what you offer is genuine and great.

    just my 2 cents.

Google doesn't give such a high value to forum links for the following reason:

You can place the links yourself. This means anyone can do it and it could be open to spamming. This also applies to blog comments and social networking.

You get more value from links that are not openly editable, like on someone elses site.

increased no? Decreased yes. I got a penalty for too many links at one :p Hence why I've made it nofollow right now :p But it does drive traffic....

I also think that signature helps to increase ranking in google.
I think that the signatures work like a backlink for us. As the number of posts increase, the number of backlinks also increase.
