I took a year break from the SEO info gathering.... spent A LOT of time on here last year and learned A LOT

Has anything major changed in Google the past year?

I've noticed a big thing lately:

DOMAIN NAME IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!


Besides that..... anything else (i.e. links, title tags, etc.)

Google Algorithm keeps on changing every now and then. Domain name is important if it contains the keywords which you want to focus. One should also focus on META TAGS.

eg. If your domain name = www.autoinsurance.com
Your focus keywords = auto insurance

Then META TAGS like description, keywords should have also the same keywords. In this case, you will get a better SERP.

 

Things a constantly changing but links are still making a big impact!

 

Under the new algorithm (called "Caffeine") -- CONTENT will be even more important than ever!

The reason I know this, is because my site jumps from #38 to the top five organic SERP for "Non-Cheesy Wedding DJ".

The word "Cheesy" only appears in the content of my site, not in my metas! Under the new algo, metas seem to have slightly less importance.

 

Google is trying top focus more on the content. Which kind of makes sense.

 

Meta Tags as in description???
