has anyone tried to use Ebay for SEO?

Ive heard one person telling me how to get into google quickly, no matter how old your site is. Basically he recons if you put up the right anchor text link to your ebay post (lets say selling a domain name), google indexes you within 24 hours as ebay is very frequently visited by ebay.

Has anyone tried doing this? Just thought Id ask before doing anything

Sort of. My ebay auction listings show up quite often in google searches. The problem is that when the auction expires the value of the listing in google isn't as great.

My eBay store listing which are more or less permanent don't usually show up in google.

I always include a link to my off eBay stores in my listing although eBay will yank the listing if they catch you doing it. The logic I think is hopefully google will see it as links from eBay. I don't know if it works for sure but it does drive traffic.

I'm actually suprised ebay doesn't have rel=nofollow in place. Wikipedia does, so why not ebay? Interesting.

well, it's like using popular sites' free service whatever that is. It could be a social bookmark site or ebay's personal page, etc.

Google crawls big ones often, so that's the catch? But those pages need to stay for a while and need backlinks. Otherwise G won't just crawl just because you put a link on eBay's page.

However, if you write a review on eBay, any new page will be crawled by G and Yahoo! pretty quick. It usually stays at the top 10 for a week or so. But you can not place any outbound link there ... :D
