I have a couple on wikipedia. If you can get links which are helpful, especially if you add something useful with your link as a reference, they tend to stay.

I have a site about the Negros Island, Philippines. What I did was I put an external link on every city and municipality of the island. My link was active for a number of months but later some was removed and some still until now still active.

ya they definitely have to be quality. I haven't gotten away with it yet, but i've added my name to a couple of lists of famous people from various places just for kicks, and i've been there for months now.

Actually, im in a battle of editing with some webmaster. Keeps removing links and putting his spammy links on the pages.

Anyone experienced with Wiki shoot me a PM on how to deal with this stuff, if you could :D

    Would appretiate it.

Wiki is more strick now specially you put a irrelevant. If your link stays for 2-4 weeks, 80% it will stay there forever.

I imagine you're quite right! I would love the super-authoritative, PR5+ links from wikipedia...

Seems to be over. I have started to contribute to the project as a whole.

Alot of spam coming in, basically have to remove 2-3 commercial spam links every week.

I've placed a link in wikipedia and it doesn't show as a backlink for me. It's still up, but I expect it to be deleted soon. They're not dumb.

Anyone contributed links to threads in forums?

I often do some research or experiment and post it as a thread - including pictures and write-ups, no advertisement.

Wonder if such links would stand?

If they're directly related to the thread subject, and useful, then yes they'd stand

I've added a few links to wikipedia. The links to my sites were always removed, and 99% of the time when I added any other link (even to internal wikipedia pages) they were removed. I then moved on to creating pages on wikipedia, and those were removed too!

    Horrible luck on wikipedia...

As stated above, and IMHO, I think only real quality and authority sites without looking to commercialized are allowed to stay.I had a link placed on Wikipedia for a long time and then suddenly it was removed.

Its not always about the traffic with wiki links, they are highly regarded by Google, after we made a wiki link to our site it ranked a lot higher the SERP.
