Has anyone here had success without SEO?

When I started developing websites again about 2 years ago, I had the whole "if you build it they will come mentality". Well, I built it but they didn't come because I had no idea of the importance of SEO.

Now I feel like I can just sort of build it and do some decent SEO and get more traffic. My question is, has anyone had success without doing the SEO work?

Basically, I am an interested in hearing stories of those who put up a site that it took off on its own without the SEO work backing it up. I'm not asking this because I am lazy about SEO but rather to see what sort of new ideas have done well quickly.

    Thanks for sharing.

Yes - You can equally trade off seo for Link bait :)

If you know how to write or hire a writer with GREAT writing skills you can easily gain more traffic then waiting for natural results..

And most of the time , the link bait will create you that natural seo factor

Link bait is also a part of SEO tactics, actually its the SEO term that confuses people. Just think of it as marketing, the product is only as good as how it is marketed.

Well, Content is king. So update your site with good and effective content for better positioning in SERP's, if you are not interesting in SEO work.

Yes, content is a crucial part. At the time I had no funds (as well as not knowing much about the 'net) so I just had to get on with it. It turns out fine.
(As I said, just have good content and promote your site well)

My website was just plodding along with minimal traffic until I learned SEO. So then I applied SEO both on-page and off-page, and traffic took off and has stayed high.

I'm sure that if you have good content in a very small niche market you will get the visitors.. it's only when there are other sites to compete with, seo becomes important

problem is that the www is so big now, whatever niche/keyword you chose you won't be alone..

depends also on how much visitors a day you aim for and what you call 'have a site take off'

you can continue without seo or any backlinks but you need to spend a good budget for evey month.

seo provides you free, continues and organic traffic.

choose your option there is a free , continues and organic traffic at one side and there is spending a budget for every month on the other

asking a seo based forum if they've had success without seo will be pretty biased

SEO makes a huge difference I think. Especially for those of us who are trying to get people to our brick and mortar stores. Backlinks in these instances won't grow organically. I can have the best product in the world but if people can't find me so what? :D

Well you can get succes if you create a viral thing like the "One Milion Dollar Page" or market (witch cost more then seo that's for sure)
