Just a word about aweber. It is very good but if you are sending 20,000 - you may wish to set the "return" email address away from your usual isp.

with 20000 you will get quite a few bounce and you don't want to be an "inbound spammer"...

maybe if I can understand more how email work then I might be able to find a way to send this email more quickly than breaking them up to very small chunks

anybody care to explain why sending loads of emails gives a lots of problems?

There are quite a number of email blasting software with such capability, just do a search for them.

Basically nothing is free in the world, that would be difficult unless you can write your own scripts.

The answer is in your sig. http://www.000webhost.com/ Use your free-hosting service! They have unlimited bandwith and might not care.

"that's why i need to know what resource is being taken up by sending loads of emails."
It's called 'Bandwith' The internet is like a water pipe. It can only accomadate X amount of traffic. Too much and it can drop below dial-up. Unless that's what you want?

if it was only about bandwidth then i wouldnt be asking here right now

there is something that takes up CPU usage or something when sending multiple emails at the same time and it's not just about the bandwidth or is it?

I'm owning a dedicated server which is not in use at the momemt, if you want I can let you send 2000 (not 20 000) mails per row.
    P-msg me if you're interested.
I will help you for free.

make a simple php script, get a cheap VPS, set your apache to unlimited time out
and run the script from your web browser or whatever, just make the script send the email to 50-200 emails per cycle getting the emails from a list
