Has anyone had any luck with college students?

I've been sourcing most of my content through friends and friends of friends but I need more than they can provide in their spare time.

I'm going to post some want ads on local college bulletin boards. Has anyone done this before? Any advice?

Have you run into any problems or learned anything about how to do this that you would be willing to share with the rest of us?

No trouble working with college students. They're cheaper, and they're generally quite flexible. And if you ask them to write something in their area of expertise, they'll do a fine job of it.
For example: You ask a CS student to write you an article on say, operator overloading or computer systems architecture, he can probably write you a pretty informative article.
Similarly, a medical student can do you a good health-related article.
They have some knowledge, and they're relatively cheaper than their older counterparts. Pretty good deal for you and them (college students can certainly use the extra cash!).

I do not think you will have any problems, there are alot of creative young freelancers out there that need/want to earn extra money and will work hard for it.

You just want to screen them carefully as you would any job applicant. Ask for references, make sure there aren't too many short-term positions listed (except ones that are short-term for good reason, like summer jobs) and if you want a detail person, make sure that the resume is well-written and proofread.

There's no real reason why not to hire a student, though. And I've had good luck with Craigslist myself looking for particular skill sets. For ex., looking for a transcriptionist yielded 4 dozen applications from my metro area, so I was able to pick from all sorts of decent options and rates of pay to boot.

When I needed someone to compile addresses, I found someone extremely overqualified (and adult) who works on the cheap as well. Just a thought ...

Or you can just outsource it to a company if your target cost is less than $4 per hour.
