Curious to know if anyone has bought an LED TV and if they are really any better than the current LCD's or Plasma's

They def look amazing. I can't believe how thin they are.

Do they warrant the price tag?

    Yes they do look great.

No doubt in more time when the likes of sony and panasonic have released some the price will drop to a reasonable level. (I hope)

They are a lot more efficient too which can only be good as every man and his dog has an energy sapping TV

These are pricier than plasma or LCD TVs..
I guess only Samsung has come up with some models.

Apparently they are still LCD TVs just with LED backlighting.

Yeah. regular LCD tvs use florescent lighting which is slightly bigger. The LED is just the backlighting.
I am actually working now with one of the companies that manufactures the LEDs for these tvs. I saw one of their prototypes this week - just a 60" LED backlight in a TV frame. Really cool :)
