Some programs or updates require you to download them from Internet Explorer. Which is way slower than Firefox. Firefox is fast, easy, and customizable.
But both should be installed...at least for the requirements of some updates.

I am not sure as to why your friend thinks that the IE is safer than Firefox. In the past, IE was detected with a lot many vulnerabilities, whereas the Firefox has none of that which IE had. Firefox is the best.

I have Firefox and don't like it. It renders pages weird and is noticably slower than IE.

Did you hear about the test of IE against all major browsers? "Internet Explorer 8.0 loads faster on 5 of the top 10 websites, and 12 of the top 25. It's faster on three times as many sites as Firefox. And one-third more sites than [Google] Chrome." Unlike Firefox, Microsoft provides a whitepaper describing its exact methodology and results: It uses real-world websites to test, as opposed to micro-benchmarks that are meaningless in the real world. You know, like the ones Firefox uses.

Well, Internet Explorer 8 has some advantages over the current version of Firefox. You can find some of them here. Firefox will probably out do all of them in the near future though and even thought it has some new and unique features I think I'll stick with Firefox for now ;)

I must admit, i've used Firefox, only on linux.. i just find the plugins etc too much of a pain... having to download a plugin to use flash, and then a plugin to use another feature... it annoyed me. I suppose if i gave it more of a chance i'd like it more, but right now, firefox is a low priority for me.

Haven't a clue why you had to do that. I don't. And "plug-ins" (they're called add-ons and extensions. Plug-ins are something else) are one of the best features that everyone raves about.

It appears they are referring to http://download.microsoft.com/downl...C098F0B848C/Measuring Browser Performance.pdf [Caution-pdf link]

In terms of the browsing part of a browser, so far havn't found any of the browsers match Opera yet. Mouse gestures - when I use them around people who don't know about it, they always gather to see how fast I browse and can navigate/open/close pages tabs etc.

I agree with most of the people here that firefox is better.
It has more features than IE and it's definitely better for a webmaster.

But I prefer to use IE when I'm searching on the internet for fun. I use firefox when I'm working on IM and I use IE for other things... don't know why but I prefer it that way :)

It's interesting how successful the whole Firefox disinformation and propoganda campaign has been. It is so trendy and sexy to say that you love Firefox and hate IE and deny the fact that IE has been proven over and over again to be much faster and more secure than Firefox. I don't even try anymore! :p

I'm not sure what your bizarre hatred of IE is all about (you're weird dude!) but you should really check your facts before accusing someone of lying. The whitepaper is available for anyone to see. I assume that evidence and facts mean nothing to you though.

You didn't say where the quote came from but, as both ArsTechnica, LifeHacker and CNET stated, that paper (from Microsoft about Microsoft. Imagine that.) is a total contradiction of any other benchmarks produced by any other party.

I've read it and, I'll reiterate my comment. Bald faced lies by one of the most dishonest corporations in the world. If you want an honest opinion, don't go to the people who are selling the product.

If you think my hatred of IE makes me weird, what does that make anyone who thinks IE is a good browser? My opinion of IE is based on knowledge based on data from sites all over the world and top, known developers who regularly write about how bad IE is, as well as my own experience. IE is the worst browser on the planet. Known, provable and verifiable. And anyone who thinks differently is weird, dude.
