Has anyone ever recovered from a severe Google Penalty?

A while back, my host got hacked (IPOWERWEB not to name names) and a whole slew of sites they served got spammed with various html files filled with salacious material. The hackers linked back to the compromised sites, including mine.

I detected this, 1 month after the fact after noticing a sudden slip in rankings. It was way too late, and after Google had spidered the content. After removal (Attacked in Oct, removed files in November 07), there was no improvement. I don't know whether I'm guilty here of correlation without causation.

Present situation - My targeted keyword ranks high on MSN, Yahoo. Google - 19th page. In Early October, I was on the 1st page for Google. After sending them repeated reinclusion requests I've given up on contacting them. Other "bad neighborhoods" link back to my site. My site only appears first when searching the exact domain name.

I can't do anything further and it seems that my site is sufferring Google's eternal damnation.

Did you move to a new hosting service? Google may have that "C" block of IP's blacklisted.

Simply report the bad sites and get them de-listed. Once their sites have been removed, concentrate on rebuilding your online reputaiton.

ya i'm now with a new host. I'll try submitting the spammy sites for delisting, but I wish there was a diagnostic tool to tell me exactly whats going on.

I have 2 sites that were heavily penalised in April last year. G are still penalising both of them...LOL..how long do I have to wait for the penalty to be lifted? I have done the re-inclusion request nearly every month.

I'm going to do the re-inclusion request for one of my sites. And it's sad to hear that it's useless) I've never been in such situation also.

i dont know much about these situations. but just guessing that if you try to get listed in DMOZ (google directory is powered by dmoz as well) and try to get authority .edu sort of backlinks this problem might get solved
its just a opinion...i got one site which was somehow thrown to nowhere on google for certain competitive phases (normally on the third page, and when this happens i have seen suspious activies though google analytics, like searching for unrelated terms and clicking on my site from the same location loads of times) but after few weeks it gets the positions back and that site is on dmoz
