Has anyone ever tried getting several articles on the web in various places, then promoting a link that is actually a specific google search that brings up those articles? Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and the results they got if they did.
I did something very similar about 5 years ago for two different sites. Both sites tanked in SERPs soon thereafter. I can't be certain that it was because of what I had done, but it is rather likely that was the cause. I removed the link to the search and a few weeks later both sites returned to previous position in SERPs. Coincidence? Could be, but I haven't had the nerve to try it again. Of course, 5 people will reply to this saying they will do it to their competitors. The link to the search was definitely on one of my sites. So, there was no doubt that the link was my responsibilty. /*tom*/
Yes, but what kinds of results do you expect? It doesn't cause the SERP to be indexed as a separate page, if that's what you are wondering about.
My money is on coincidence. It is normal for sites to drop from results and then come back, especially if you don't have a strong link profile.
I do not expect the search to gain a ranking, but it would be interesting to see if it boosted the articles and therefore the site those direct to.
I targeted a couple of search terms and put sites in every (or 9 of the top ten) result on page 1 of Google and then used that Google URL with an anchor text on occasions elsewhere.
Sounds like a waste of time. Why would you do such thing is the SERPs are always in flux? It makes no sense from both SEO stand point and as a reference.
