Bug Has anybody else been experiencing issues with constantly having to login on DP

    Hey Guys!

I love DP :) But have been having an issue ever since I started using the forum where I'm constantly having to keep logging in. Like the sessions are being lost after a few minutes of being logged in. Today was especially bad as it's like 30 seconds and I'm logged out. Will probably have to log back in once I click submit here in a second.

Also I'm sure it's not a computer issue because I've tried it on various different computers in 3 different cities. Although they were all on the same ISP, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Do you have anti-virus installed like Norton? It sometimes deletes your cookies too.

Thanks for getting back to me! I have none installed on this computer, but do on the other 2 computers that I tried in others locations. Haven't really seen anyone else on the forum mention this type of issue so assuming maybe it has something to do with my ISP(since all 3 locations I tried are using Aliant/Bell) or the fact that I'm located on the east coast of of Canada and the DigitalPoint servers are located on the west cost of the states. I've only been using Firefox too. But maybe I'll try doing a few tests :)

I'm newer here and have already seen this. I'll suddenly go to post and realize that I'm not still logged in. Seems to be a flaw in the board. I thought it was just me.
Luckily it doesn't seem to happen that often.

The only issue I'm experiencing is the forum taking a few refreshes from when I login to actually work... Both of you should check that you're using the Remember Me option. If you aren't, then that could be a possible cause.

ohhhh yeah! "remember me" - Maybe this issue is only occurring for users who do not select "remember me". I'm the type who is used to not using that function because of shared computers. But that wont be an issue now and I'll try it out to see how it works now.

You shouldn't need to use the Remember Me option unless you don't do something within 15 minutes (like viewing a page). If it's happening even if you do something within 15 minutes, then something on your computer is deleting your browser cookies.

This is what I've found. If I'm just browsing and haven't made a post, it will kick me out. As soon as I post something the problem goes away.

Well if it logs you out within 15 minutes of inactivity, perhaps that explains it. I post at other forums and don't have problems there so I know it's not my computer.

The 15 minute limit might explain some of it, but usually I find it more frequent and intermittent. Like yesterday it was every 30 seconds. But really it's working a whole lot better now that I've selected to remember the password :)

You know a lot more about this than me most likely, but I know that server firewalls kick people off whenever it deems them to be a threat. (loading too many pages, uploading big files, etc). Maybe the server firewall is simply set too strict? Else, what is the time set for sessions to expire? (Advanced settings in vB ACP I think)

The sessions expire after 15 minutes I believe he said. But yeah who knows :p I am the type to hold CTRL and click many links to open different tabs so I dont have to go back and forth.

    YES!

I have been having this problem a lot.

I go to my e-mail, find that I have had a PM, click on the link to go to the private message area, and get asked to log in - fine.

I click on the message, it then asks me to log in again - hmm.

I then read the message and go to reply to it, and it asks me to login again.

This has been an ongoing problem for all the time that I have been using this board, so today I decide to go looking to see whether other people are having this problem, and find this thread.

When I go to reply, it asks me to login again.

I wonder whether it will ask me to login when I go to post?

In any case, the time between the first log in, and now is much less than 15 minutes, so that isn't the issue. I don't have the 'remember me' thing checked, but that shouldn't mean that I have to login after every action.

    Any thoughts?

I have Norton 2011 and I've yet to experience any type of problems so far . The only bug is related to Opera Turbo but that only affects the forum index page .

I don't use any anti-virus program :p But I think the easiest thing to do is just use "remember me" :p If you're on a public computer then just clear our the browser information before you logoff.
