Has Adsense for Search Worked for You?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by JL_99, Mar 1, 2006.

I haven't used Adsense for Search myself, but I've been thinking about adding it to one of my sites.

Has anyone here had much in the way of earnings from Adsense for Search, or do most of you prefer to stick with ad units and link units?

    Not really

But if you have enough traffic it could earn you some extra cash...

It is just a nice extra feature to offer people sometimes. On the right site it could make a few dollars, but don't expect to get rich from it.

I agree. I have been using it on one of my sites and the returns are very poor. However, since that site does not have its own search engine, dual purposing Google may not be such a bad idea.

I'm actually suprised how well it has performed for me. Most often than not some of the clicks are much higher than I would get from my normal ads. That being said, it really depends on what people are searching for.

In any case, it is a very nice extra feature to have.

Yeah, I thought it might work well on one of my sites where people tend to come in looking for a very specific thing, read a paragraph or two about it on my site, and then move on. I might as well make a few cents when they continue their search elsewhere!

Wouldn't the search box for $$$ work better with sites that people find through the SE's? My site gets 2.5 pageviews per unique and I think after leaving, perhaps many users go back to google. I'll begin trying out the google search this weekend. My thoughts are much like JL_99's, so I think it makes sense :)

Works well for me. I have one page that a lot of people set as their homepage, so instead of going to Google mutliple times a day they search through me.

Also I have had decent returns using it as site search on article type sites.

I have had very few visitors use it, although it has generated a little revenue.

I have a "How To" site visited by professionals and do it yourself'ers. The pros know what they are looking for and can follow my navigation. The DIY types really save time finding what they need by using search.

Do you earn anything for visitors using search for just content on your own site?

I tried it for a bit, but it didn't really do much for me. So I moved on and found a better use of the space.

    From my experience,

The Good News: Insanely awesome CTR
The Bad News: Usually less then $0.01 per click

In the end, it just wasn't worth my time. It took visitors away from my site for very little payback.
