Hey guys, About 2 hours ago my sites went down for about 20 minutes. Here is the email I got from hostgator: Dang! This has prompted some changes! All of my websites are now on a dedicated server. But not just any server. I have opted for the dedicated pro package (Quad-Core 3210 Xeon). This means e4e + other ezcbcash websites are going to load much faster, the ebooks and videos will download faster (happy customers). Its costing 374/month however I think its going to be worth it. To less downtime and faster loading sites, Drew
If I were you I'd go with managed dedicated and have shared server as backup. Dedicated servers are nice but you are on your own in regards to backups and stuff. And if it does go down for any number of reasons it may stay down for hours if it needs to be re-imaged. If this happens you can just flip DNS and redirect traffic to "backup" shared hosting. I've played around with dedicated servers and know this from experience. It's nice to see that you have enough traffic to overload the server though. Good for you
Karabas, I'm pretty sure he is still with hostgator (the $374 gives it away).. Therefore it is fully managed. And yes, you are right to recommend another server somewhere as a backup. However many shared accounts will not let you perform secure copy from within whm. I would recommend a decent VPS somewhere with full root access. That way all one's domains can be flipped knowing that the backup is a recent copy that you didn't have to jump through hoops to clone. BTW, I like your site re-design...
Well, VPS is another thing I would strongly not recommend. I played around with it too. The problem is that there too many k00L HaX0rZ who want to take over the internet get the cheapest VPS around and peg the CPU or HDD running their stuff so everyone on the same node is screwed. Besides VPSes usually come with very little memory so I really don't understand why anyone would bother. IMHO you should either go with shared or with managed dedicated.
Well that's cool Swerd, I'm glad you sorted out this issue and this is a good way to show your aff's that no matter how much you have to pay you'll do it to have the sites up and running... obviously if they make more sales you'll make much more than that But still it is great. Inz P.S there goes my 800 post LOL
Ahh, I disagree .... You get what you pay for... My VPS costs me more than most out there... But I get EXCELLENT management, few neighbors that are screened, enough ram to do most anything I want, a 100mbps pipe (more than most dedi's) and BW that rivals a dedi. For less than it would cost if it were my own machine. This combined with 2 other shared accounts elsewhere has provided me with security and consistency, without the bloated dedi costs. Swerd, sorry for the hijack... Good call to move over to your own machine!
This same thing happened to me with hostgator for one of my sites. Took a whole day for my site to come back. You are very lucky with just 20 minutes downtime.
It's funny to see how hostgator's "UNLIMITED" bandwidth is... well very limited. Congrats on the new hosting, Swerd
Please tell me you weren't on shared hosting before? If so, that's probably the only failure you've made in a decent e4e campaign.
Although the $374/month is steep, I think you got your money's worth hosting e4e on ~$5.00/month shared hosting for so long!
yeah I got away with 10/month hosting for quite some time.. It was deffinetly due. Yeah 20 mins down time was good. luckily I was on the computer at the time. Alex - the unlimited bandwith got me too.. im sure marketing it that way works much better for them. They probably have something about usage in the terms.
Wow $375 a month! Well I guess if your the publisher of E4E you can afford it BTW just wondering, did you create E4E from your own knowledge or was it all compiled from other peoples info?
just Im sure you could research the topic and find lots of stuff online about it (like most cb products). Thats why I have added the video instructions. Adding another video this week too actually! More customer satisifaction = less refunds.. however, I now get some refunds from people saying "the videos dont work on my PC". The vids would also have contributed to the need for a server upgrade too.
