goldensun, what you are saying here is like music to my ears. I don't want to start
removing a bunch of programs. Not just yet. I'll check out TreeSize Free first.

Yes, I rather like Real Player. Does it take up a lot of space? I do know that I have
a bunch of Real Player downloads in a file that takes up about 2 gigs. And although,
I know it all adds up, I keep thinking it's only a matter of time before I'll find some
file, program or stash that is the real space hog.

I never use Google Earth and Safari anymore. They can go for sure. Open Office?
I'm torn. But it's definitely something to consider. Again, it all adds up.

Thanks so much! Especially to ken.sweet and goldensun. I'll start working on this stuff
and report back in a couple few days.

If you have a look at the programs list again just below the title you should see the size that the program takes up, in real players case it is saying 88MB, if you do use real player then keep it.

If you love taking pictures or listening to podcasts, or have videos then this is probably where the space is going. In that case your best bet is to get another drive and move the files there, or you could burn them to dvd.

Hello fellow DP readers, I hope this post finds you well. Hi ken.sweet (and goldensun).

Well, I managed to delete a few programs - Google Earth and Open Office being the
largest ones. Although, it wasn't enough to make any difference. I have 2 and half
gigs free space instead of 1.

Imabloggernow, I didn't touch the java updates, not being sure which ones were safe
to remove. And goldensun, I still haven't checked out TreeSize Free yet.

Argh! I'm like that alcoholic relative who whines and cries into her cocktail about how
she knows she needs to clean up her act but then, nothing changes! Is it any wonder
I don't have a successful Internet marketing business yet?!

(Did I say that out loud?!)

Never give up though. As Wayne Gretsky said, 100% of the shots you don't take
won't make it. I'll keep at it. I'll either start by taking the sage advice of ken.sweet,
imabloggernow and goldensun and figure out what is taking up all the space in this
computer or I'll be buying another one with 3 times the hard drive space.

I'll report back soon for those who still care then.

hey ken.sweet. (btw, what is the Hand of A'dal?)

Yes, I think you are right. I need what you have!

In the meantime, and until I can afford to go out and purchase
    a Toshiba Satellite A665D-S5175 packing 640GB HDD (5400rpm)
and 4GB DDR3 1066MHz memory (you think I've given this any
    thought? LOL
    ), I'm taking goldensun's advice. I downloaded
TreeSize Free. I'm about to go all Columbo up in here. I will get
    to the bottom of this!

    Stay tuned.
