With the amount of info you have provided it could be any number of things and it could also be none of them.

If you want to resolve the issue promptly you need to get specific as to the hardware you are using & in what configuration. Also the answer could lie in the kind of XP Pro CD you are trying to use?
Is it a retail XP Pro disc or OEM ?

hey..sorry for the post with min. info..i installed a new hard drive,WD 500 gigs..i tried ti install retail(bought at best buy) windows xp pro.it started to load drivers, then asked if i wanted to install..i said yes, then it said disk was not readable or disk was invalid..i tried to run the setup disk for the WD harddrive, and it just hangs up and does nothing...I guess i should return both, although i cannot get money back for the XP i bought, just new copy

you should at least be able to run setup (via the WD SW) and configure (format) the drive

if you can't do that something must be wrong.

Returning is not a solution. I'm quite sure there is a problem at your end. Did you check the cables? Tried to detect hard drive from BIOS Menu? If yes , it worked? (as you are saying it loaded drivers so I guess hard drive is ok).
