Hard drive failure

i have a spare hard drive that i keep important financial documents on. recently this hard drive failed. the dreaded "clicking" sound. i read up on it and most likely the "heads" went bad on it. i was also reading that this isn't exactly a do it yourself repair job and you will want a pro to take a look at it. the only services i have found require you to blindly send your hard drive to whatever company. this really isn't an option to me as i don't feel like sending financial documents to xyz recovery company. hopefully some of you can relate.

i'm looking for some thoughts and opinions from the community on what i should do here as this is my first time having this issue.

    thanks

Try to find a company that does that sort of thing close to your home and take the hard drive yourself. I had no problems with their employees disclosing any info from the hard drive. My hard drive fails every year prob, the pc is constantly running and i still did not learn to buy another one and store the info there as well. Well what can you do, some people never learn.:p

Also buy a external hard drive whit its own power supply and fan to cool it.
My friend has one for 4 years now and no problems with it whatsoever.
