I have P4 3.0GHz processor based system on Intel D915GVWB board, with 512 RAM running on WinXP and FC4 (Dual boot). The board supports SATA drives. What is the maxmum hard disk size the board can support? I currently have 80GB IDE drive.
Good configuration...plz. note 80 GB hard disk is enough sized for this configuration...but this board can support upto 240 GB hardisk but in that case system performance might get slower although the HDD is Sata...so it's better you keep it as is....but if so required then put another slot of Ram in your system...say..512 MB more...Hope this will help you ... hmm..... with a P4 3.0Ghz CPU, i wld guess that mobo cannot be too old or grubby. Besides, what size of HDD are you looking at??? I wld say that a 300GB HDD shouldn't be a problem. I have not gone to check out your mobo, but unless u r thinking of those at the extremes like >400GB, i don't think u need to worry....
This configuration I got exactly 2 years back (even though it looks like a solid configuration).. So I am not confident on the max HDD support.. (Thats why this thread)
also could some one tell me who is the best Hard disk manufacturer as I am also going to upgrade my 40 GB hard disk in few months!
This is kinda like asking "What's the best car"... I always buy Seagate drives, and have done for years. I've still got an ancient 10 year old Barracuda (in my mums pc) - it's still going strong. The only drive I've ever had fail on me was a Western Digital - it clicked and jammed, and taught me a lesson about backups.
Seagate....... No close substitutes BTW, I am looking for a 300gb HDD and reading above posts, I think I can go for it..
i like SEAGATE too as it comes with a 5yr warranty compared with the others with only 3yrs.... also it has been quite reliable for me. I currently have 3 HDD in my system, 2 SEAGATE, 1 WESTERN DIGITAL... Definitely no MAXTORS for me if u have more questions, i invite u to my forums where i have quite a few very knowledgable and experienced guys hanging around
Maxtor has been taken over by seagate. Western digital drives are more quieter than Seagate ones. The performance is neck and neck between the two. No reason to not go for a Seagate drive. I would suggest going for Seagate Barracuda 500GB . Also you need not worry about installing SATAII drives on SATA I supported motherboards. SATAII is backwards compatible
you can go for SCSI, that will be fast! my board dose not support sata, so am planning to get a pata harddisk! perhaps its time to update the whole computer
I have same configurations on my old pc and i am currently using Segate 250 GB Sata on it along with 80GB IDE Saad
