I think this thread is a nice thought, but wanted to let you know Thanksgiving Day is not exclusively for Christians. Actually, in the US, many Muslims, Jewish, and even atheists will celebrate the day as well. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
In the US, the tradition of Thanksgiving Day began with a feast and celebration of a good harvest. Plenty of good food, and spending time with family is customary upon this day. For those especially, that believe in a G-d, they may give thanks that day. For others that don't, they can be thankful anyway. We all have something to be thankful for? But, here, everyone I know, from the religious, to the not so religious, will take this day to celebrate.
Thank you. Here's a dish we always have on Thanksgiving in my family. It's green bean casserole, a mixture of green beans, mushroom soup, and french fried onions. Do you think people in Istanbul would like such a recipe? Here's a picture of it: Recipe: Campbell's Kitchen
Though thanksgiving is celebrated only by Christians, even everyone in the world atleast should do a prayer and give thanks to all the things we have got in this world.
Thanksgiving is a secular holiday, again, it's not a religious holiday intended exclusively for Christians. The first time it was celebrated was in 1621 by American pilgrims to give thanks for the abundant harvest, it was made into a national holiday in America in 1863. It's a time where everyone, whether they are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Agnostic, Atheist, whatever, can come together, rest for the day, spend time with family, eat a lot of good food and be thankful for what we have. Another traditional Thanksgiving dish is Sweet Potato Casserole, it's made by baking mushed up sweet potatoes with marshmellows on top: Sweet Potato Casserole recipe: AllRecipes Happy Thanksgiving! p.s. I wanted to share this as well. Every year we have the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, this particular department store has sponsored a parade every Thanksgiving for about the last 85 years...
