I agree with you guys that contentment is one ingredient of a happy life. And being joyful despite perils, problems and sadness.
Buddhist mind training has been helping me to achieve a very healthy, happy e peaceful mind. By taming our minds, cultivating positive emotions (compassion, altruistic love, kindness, generosity...) and neutralizing negative emotions (anger, hatred, aversion, obsessive desire, attachment, envy, neediness...) thought meditation, we can cultivate a very mature and resilient happiness. Cultivating compassion, and acting to relieve the suffering and bring happiness to others is a very important part on our pursuit of happiness. No one can find true lasting happiness while causing suffering to others. Take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbLEf4HR74E Description: What is happiness, and how can we all get some? Buddhist monk, photographer and author Matthieu Ricard has devoted his life to these questions, and his answer is influenced by his faith as well as by his scientific turn of mind: We can train our minds in habits of happiness. Sorry for my bad english. May all of you be happy and free from suffering.
