Why it's Independence Day in the United States of course! The brave fought to the death against the British Red Coats in order to retain their inalienable rights and sovereignty, beginning with the 4th of July 1776 ratification of the Declaration of Independence.

The declaration was at the beginning, the war itself dragged on til 1783. anyway, thanks for the national birthday good wishes. :)

So what did you all get up to? Is Fourth of July not as party-like as Thanks Giving?

Basically we cook out, drink a little beer, watch a few fireworks displays. It's a summer holiday, and here at least it's too hot for major exertion.

Oddly, in years past our citizenry has been known to be less heat conscious. In the US civil war the battle of Gettysburg was fought over a few day span leading up to July 4th, and those guys made forced marches without sleep and were thrown immediately into frontal assaults walking or running into massed cannon and/or rifled muskets while carrying 9 - 10 pound small arms (plus ammo) and wearing woolen uniforms.

Obviously a tougher breed of men back then. They wouldnt have needed to shoot me... a brisk walk in that heat in a woolen uniform wouldve killed me.

Give it a rest will ya ? You've just nuked yourself . Everyone knows the "my fellow Americans" is a traditional beginning in any speech given by a US president or another American politician .
