I have been helping a friend relative actually with a Halo site. He does it for fun and enjoys the game so he is not die hard to get it traffic. I on the other hand have seen quite a bit of traffic so I am kind of experimenting with it now. With little effort I have ranked very high for a couple of keywords, it is now getting traffic from some long tail. Each keyword phrase I target is set for different landing pages, but since the sight is about halo wars, I assume that traffic should continue to build from keywords related to the game just from adding content even with little outside seo at this point. My question for dpers is that say I rank High for the term halo wars community, (not a lot of competition) and it ranks on the main page. Should I stick with adding landing pages and targeting the backlinks to those pages as a halo wars strategy page about tips for the game. Or should I keep the targeting to the main page. (will that page lose rank for halo wars community) if I target other backlinks to it. Did that make sense, lol.
It would be hard for you to lose #2 placement for "halo wars community"..... I think you will easily keep that placement with small effort. Do for the other pages as you do for the home page...... Your ultimate goal I would assume is targeting "halo wars"...... So, the more content you have and the more inner targeting you have will make you more of an authority on the subject and you might well get your menu on Google for the subject ( as halowars.com has on Google) or better yet get listed on the xbox site as a top fan site.
