Had my Bank Card Skimmed - How do I Recover my Stolen Funds?

The worst has happened to me. Someone skimmed my bank card at a local Wal-Mart and they have stolen over $700 from my account.

This is how I found out: I went shopping at wal-mart and the day after my card was not accepted and I didn't know why so I went home, logged on to my bank account to see what was going on and I saw a $300 pending transaction.

So I went to my bank and explained to them that my card doesn't work and there's a $300 dollar withdrawl from a wal-mart Anderson (I had no idea where Anderson was).

They told me there was nothing they could do until the transaction went through and posted. I talked to them for awhile and they sent me to their manager or someone (not sure what their actual position is) to order another bank card that works.

After a lengthy discussion with this person, they finally called the main branch and found out that my card had been "skimmed".

So to make a long story short, my bank's main branch was alerted because someone at a Wal-Mart 30 states away had made a $300 withdraw from my account.

So now a total of $700 has been stolen from my account from a Wal-Mart at Anderson, South Carolina.

I'm not sure what I need to do to get my money back. If anyone has been in or knows what to do, I really need your advice.

They should automatically reverse the transactions within a few days of your complaint. It'll go through a dispute process where they'll send you a form requesting details which you MUST send back in a timely manner. After that, it should be smooth sailing for you.

I had a similar incident but I agree with kansieo when he said the bank should automatically reverse the transactions. If the transactions are fraudulent you are not liable.

Your bank should have a special protection for that, contact them ASAP.
You should complain at wal mart and the police as well so that they find the guilty.
