This is actually interesting if you are into twitter. Back in late 2006 I joined twitter because I was going site to site promotion a new dinosaur educational website. Funny thing. I registered the name "Dinosaurs" because it was not taken. Years past, I forgot about it, then a a month ago someone emailed me and offered me a ridiculously high amount of money for my dinosaur site. Somewhere about $45,000 or so with the specific instructions that he only wants it with the twitter account. I kind of laughed. Twitter account? what the heck....... Well, I found my twitter account, got the password, and I updated it a few times, and its so nuts of a name that I've been getting about 6 to 20 new followers just sitting there everyday. Even a few celebrities are following me. The ultimate question I have is having an amazing twitter account worth it? I could have 100,000 followers by the end of this year if I feel like updating it everyday but what it the point considering my site gets 65,000-75,000UV per month, would twitter even matter?
take the offer. followers = not hard to get. there are 13 year olds with 100k+ follower accounts unless you have a good way to turn followers into revenue i.e. get them to your website and display well placed Google Adsense adverts.
haha thats awesome. It makes you think too because you could try to haggle with the person who wants to buy it, making him think you have a lot of other offers or, you could find a way to monetize that and make more than $45,000 over time.
I don't think he would just want the twitter account. I'm fairly sure he wants the site with it and I'm never selling that site. Its been paying me for years.
If your site has so many visitors because it has great content, then definitely take up Twitter. If you just post a quick thing from your site everyday and reply to a person or two (very easy to do) you can use it as a great tool to bring more attention to your site. Many people will follow a company/site on Twitter before visiting the website.
It's a difficult decision to make. If he only wants the twitter account, do it but that won't be the case. Only take the offer if that will bring you more profit than the website gives you.
Wow, great story. It's funny to think how little things like that can turn into great investments down the line.
