h1 tags

I have always insisted to clients that never have more than one h1 tag, yet i noticed a self claimed SEO expert, had several h1 tags on his index page.

Are there any guys here that use several h1 tags?

are there any guys here that never use them?

I will stick to using one, i would just like to hear others people takes on it?

 

Having one h1 tag is always good.Instead of having two h1 tags, you can consider having two h2 tags.

 

Having one H1 tag per page is a good and effective policy for optimization of the web page.

 

<h1> to <h6> tags are used to define the structure of the web page for the user as well as search engines. Some so called SEO experts believe that by using more then one <h1> tag they can get additional benefits. This thinking and practice is absolutely absurd.

 

Only 1 <h1> because it is your main topic and others are h2 h3 h4 etc.
There is no such a thing like 6 equal topics!

 

H1 tags still have value in SEO. Though now that css means you can hide them everywhere they are worth less.

Use them sensibly, for layout.

 

Stick to using just one H1 tag.

That's what he talks about. Think of usability, not of "how many times I can put H1 without a risk of being punished".

 

there is no rule that we cant use more then one. if we use more then 1 its not ganna get the same effect for sure.

 

If one manages to apply S.E.O. and get the website to an 100% usability degree it would be for the best, but mostly in this case usability matter the most. Anyway, it's not like you can just throw some tags in there and get a high ranking

 

I know that google considers the <h1 tag to be the main topic of the website while <h2 is to be the main topic of the page. <h3 and so don;t carry as much weight as h1 and h2, but can be used to support the h2 topic.

Think of it as a newspaper like the new york times.

<h2 Obama visits Time Square </h2

<h3 Michelle also loves New York <h3

<h4 Their kids think New York is cool too </h4

<h5 So does their dog <h5

<h6 And their hampster <h6

 

Agreed That's why the question "how many times..." is pointless.

 

H1 tag is used for heading....& we can use more than heading tags....

Use only single H1 tag per page. Either it can be controlled by CSS, BUT overplay of CSS also comes to SEO SPAM.

h1 for title website, h2 for title post, h3 for widget..

 

I'm sorry but Google does NOT consider the <h1> element on a given page to be the main topic of the web site. They consider it to be the main topic of the page. If it were true that they consider it the main topic of the web site then it would make no sense to have an <h1> anywhere but the home page.

Unfortunately, lots of non-SEO knowledgeable web designers have perpetuated this myth by creating templates where the company logo image in the header that appears on every page as an <h1> which is a terrible design decision. The <h1> of any given page should target the keyword phrase(s) from the <title>. period...

They don't consider <h2> to be the main topic of the page. They consider the <h2> to be a sub-topic of the main topic of the page (main topic of page being <h1>).

And if you ever find yourself needing to use <h4> ... <h6> to micro divide your topic into sub-sub-sub-sub-sub topics, you had better have a page that is several thousand words in length (otherwise it should never be required)... or better yet, might want to consider breaking your page into multiple pages.
