H1 tags still important for SEO?

H1 tags are a win-win IMO, they make pages look better for visitors with a clear and hopefully exiting entery into the content and score points with the search for on page optimization,

I never create a page without an H1 and sometime use an H2 for a title in the middle section,

 

A page with H1/h2/h3 tags is well organized and that help Google for better index and ranking.

 

This question has been ask over and over so I did a benchmark on my home page. I removed it.

Now, my site ranks very well. I over SEO (sorry Google). I use all the SEO elements as any good On-Page SEOer does.

But remove the H1 tag from the #1 position SERP in Google (November 2008 timeframe) and you will be sitting at #26 after the next index.

Don't believe me, try it. Post it here. What was your results?



Noe: when you put it back, you do go back to where it was.

 

h1,2,3 and title tags are key from my experience (as long as you have good content). Once I implemented those on my site, my traffic has been going up and up for about a year now. Went from 1.5k uniques to 16k uniques in just a little over a year.

 

H1 tag shows how page is all about so h1 will reflect your main keywords that help you in ranking

 

Like everyone else says, use the h1 tag for best results
