H1 Tags. How do you use them and where do you put them?

I hear H1 tags are good for a sites PR.

1.) Where do they go? Inside of the <head></head> tags?
2.) Does it get seen by people or just SEs
3.) What do you put inside of it? Just keywords or an actual sentance?

    1.
    H1/H2 etc inside <body></body>

    2.
H1 etc are seen titles by both reader and SE
for details see the fine online tutorial at
    http://www.w3schools.com/
about HTML basic tags with many examples

    3.
you write keyword containing titles as a brief sentence like in any printed book or printed articles in magazines

H-titles are a help to structure your content into logical units

Heading tags are great for SE rankings and accessibility, but they are not a component associated with page rank.

Yeah this is good for SE but it has nothing to do with PR.

you better put the H1 tags (with keywords) inside the <body></body> at the very top, so the SE can see the important keywords of your website.

So if i dont want anyone to see them, but still get the SE ranking boost, I could make the text white.. or the same color as the BG

So you have to have an H1 before you can have an H2, and does an H1 give a bigger + for SE rank than an H2? Can you have more than one H1 tag in an html doc? Is having more headings be better than just one; would the number of headings have to be proportional to the size of the document? I.E if you had a short article, and 6 headings, would the SE bot see that as bad? Versus a very long article with 6y headings.

Maybe you could have a bunch of H1,2,3 etc. tags at the bottom, in white, so people dont see them, but SE's do?

Why wouldn't you want people to see your H1 tags?

I'm reasonably sure that having text the same color as your background for search engine manipulation purposes only is going to generate a penalty, since it's a violation of their terms of service.

Rather than having hidden content scattered throughout your page, you should keep your HTML document very content oriented. If it's a heading, mark it as a heading; if it's a paragraph, mark it as a paragraph. And there should not be any markup that does not describe what your content is. Keep your pages clean, simple, and logical.

Like if I had a page that looks better without a heading. I could add a heading and keep it looking like i wanted it to
