H1 tags and Title tags - Are they the same?

Discussion in 'Keywords' started by coffee cruncher, Aug 23, 2009.

I have read that H1 tags are powerful for SEO. The GoDaddy template I use does not have H1 tags as part of the template and it uses Title tags, not H1 tags, for blog entry headings. Are title tags equal to H1 tags for SEO or should I be concerned that my blog/site does not have H1 tags?

    Thanks.

I do not know what you mean by Title tags. Is it a CSS style? The answer is that you should have a H1 tag for your title. The H1 tag should repeat the title meta tag you have on your page. Yes it helps Google to determine the main keywords for your page. It is important to have your main keywords in the H1 tag.

Hi - hope this info helps you:

1 - Title tags are found in the header code of your website.
2 - H1 tags are found in the body code of your site.
3 - H2, H3, H4 & H5 tags are also found in the body code of your site.

Getting it all right is important :) So it's worth doing a search and editing the code yourself.

Thanks celestialjones for your post. I do not know where I was with the title tag. Obviously, the Title tag in the header. I was thinking about the title in the body??? I just tried to figure it out when thinking about something else, but it was far too obvious.

I was a little wrong in my last post here. Sorry for the mistake. The title is not a meta tag, but it is usually found near the meta tags. Anyway, you should have an H1 tag (only one), at the beginning of your text content (the title of the your article for example).

Both tags are different. Title tags describe ur site in brief that is shown on the title bar, very top of the site. While h1 tags are just tags describing some headers of the body of the page, there are h2, h3, h4 headers and lots more. Using both tags appropriately can boost ur search engine ranking.

H1 and title tag are not the same, but as H1 is often used to summarize the main idea of a page, a lot of cms use it to create a unique title tag of the page.
