    well

Im a newbie and trying to do some SEO for my wordpress site.. http://www.dentalhealthsite.com

now i read a lot about the importance of h1 tag and all but what i wasnt understanding was how to get them there in the first place..

i realised while i was making the post if i selected something and assigned it Heading1 it will become an h1 tag..

Later i realised you can set things up that the h1 tag is the post title, and h2 title is whatever with out it actually being visible on the page..

i guess it involves editing some of the template files

can someone point me to a tutorial or give explanation for that? thanks

I'm assuming you have a self-hosted Wordpress blog...

If you go to Design --> Theme Editor look for a template titled "index.php."

Look for some code like this:

Your php functions (indicated by ?php some_words(); ?) might be named differently but mainly look for "title=". Do a Ctrl+F if you need to.

That's the code that tells says show the title and with a link it to the post. If that code doesn't already have the h1 tags around it, then add them.

Do the same thing for your Archives, Single Post and Page templates.

You can define what your Heading 1 looks like by editing the CSS template.

The search engines will supposedly kind of read your <h> tags as headings, such as in a newspaper, highlighting the main points of the page. <h1> <h2> etc. But who really knows nowadays anyway? I use them nonetheless.
