Would you say that a clear a relevant H.1 heading as well as the page title is a necessitiy and if so does it matter if you have the same text as page title and H1. heading?

Yes, It will be really very good SEO if you display your targetted keyword as Title and h1 heading.

Make sure you get the key phrase into the description as well, you also want to aim to get it into the body text and first 100 words - these are all elements that add a little bit to getting the job done correctly :)

Remember also to make use of H2 tags as well - never leave anything as a Paragraph as this is wasted - H tags are an important way to explain to the search engines how to 'read' your page. Also never more than 1 H1 Tag per page!

The H1 tag tells the SE's what your primary keywords are. Just like the title of a newspaper story tells you what to expect from the article, the H1 tag tells the SE's what your site is about. It is one of the strongest on-site optimisation techniques.

By having two H1's - you are, in effect, contradicting yourself & confusing the SE's.

Imagine a newspaper article with two titles (Dog Saves Cat Stuck Up Tree | Economy Set to Recover in 6 Months). It just wouldn't make sense!

Your site should be structured like this:

    <h1>Main Keywords in Title</h1>
    <p>some text with keywords in</p>

    <h2>Sub-Title with 1st secondary keywords</h2>
    <p>some text with keywords in</p>

    <h3>Sub-Sub-Title with 1st secondary keywords in</h3>
    <p>some text</p>

    <h2>Sub-Title with 2nd secondary keywords</h2>
    <p>some text with keywords in</p>

    <h3>Sub-Sub-Title with 2nd secondary keywords in</h3>
    <p>some text</p>

    etc etc

    HTH

That's a good question. I haven't tried using two H1 tags versus one H1 & one H2. Someone should test it out to see if it makes any difference at all. SEO is all guesswork / trial & error. Good luck!

Same question as above, what if both H1 tags are relevant to each other? I've always seen it as adding more meaning into the page & making it easier for the SEs to identify what the page's all about.

SEO experts don't recommend more than one H1, but sometimes to know the exact behavior one needs to implement it first.

Thanks for that! I guess I'm gonna ditch my 2nd H1, & replace it with an H2. :p

If you want to sabotage your chance of ranking for a keyword then two <h1> tags will certainly accomplish the task.

Here's a poor analogy for humor's sake. If I tell you to bring me my favorite dish and I have two dishes in the fridge labeled <favorite><favorite>. You're going to need more info to proceed correct?

You've got search engines saying "Well, which is it? We'll get back to you when you make up your mind".

Semantically and typographically speaking, if you're going to use H3s like that they should be used in pairs when used. (At least you positioned them properly as children of the H2 heading though.)

I'm a newb, so I can't post the link, but search for 15 minute SEO. There is a great table that addresses just this issue. (you want both)
