H1,H2,H3 tags important for keyword weightage

If you have ever considered using H1,H2,H3 tags or Bold tag on your page, you are on right track but make sure you use it correctly for your most valuable keywords. H1 tag defines the most important keyword on page, h2 is second and h3 is third.
Bold the keywords if you want the keywords to take priority when search engine crawls them.

consider using your most important keyword as the first word or phrase after body tag. Try this and you will get good results from onsite SEO.

Heading tags aren't made for keywords, they are made to structure content properly. Write content for visitors not search engines.... mis-information train honks it's horn once again.

Wrong, you write for visitors. Guess what, who cares how many visitors you get from search engines if 90% of them turn around and leave within 5 seconds due to poorly written content and website design which was made for crawlers and not the visitors.

Use the below research to learn to "structure" your content, which is what the heading tags are for. They aren't made to please search engines and when used properly are FAR more valuable then using the suggestions the above posters have said.

Agreed. And anyone talking about HTML had damn well better be a Web designer or develoer, not an "SEO Guru" either.

All the mis-information that I've heard in various Web design forums about "wanting to do [this] or [that] for SEO purposes" is the reason why I started posting in SEO boards to begin with. SOMEONE has to get the "SEO experts" to shut up, listen, and learn how it's really done.

And that someone is me.

    Hi Dan
I am not SEO expert like you but wanted to know if the above means "There is no impact of H1,H2,H3 tags on onsite optimization and that can not bring keyword ranking?"

So what's the definitive verdict on this?
Obviosuly content is important, but do H1/2/3 tags 'really' help?

They do have an impact because the search engines (for those who may be reading this who prefer a more technical explaination, please bear in mind I'm writing my response using this newfangled concept called "plain conversational language" so that everyone can understand and learn) use the markup (HTML tags) to determine what the content means.

For example, when used properly, a search engine will be able to look at a H1 heading and figure out that the tag is being used as the top-level heading of the page, and that it's introducing, identifying and briefly describing the content that will be on that particular page. H2s would be treated in much the same manner, but they'd be the major sections of that page, whereas H3s would be the "major talking points" of those particular sections.

It's one of the reasons why the search engines tell us to make sites for people, not search engines. Because when we do, the search engines will be able to extract the meaning from the content on each page (especially if applying HTML semantics properly) a lot easier (not to mention quicker, if coded properly using the bare minimum of clean, semantic, structural and valid markup that separates the HTML from the CSS and JavaScript code by including those languages into separate .css and .js files), which can dramatically improve our rankings (especially since most of the Web sites that are currently online aren't even optimized properly - if at all - to begin with).

They are still important now, they are used to structure content properly; not to inject keywords randomly on a web page. Considering for 10 seconds that content is the most important factor in relevant search results... wouldn't you think structuring that content properly would be in your favor.
