<h1> and <h2> tags for seo

    Hi Guys,

I'll try and keep this short and sweet. How important are h1, h2, h3 tags etc in terms of search engine optimization?

Also, how many times can a h2 tag be used in one page? I understand that you should keep to one h1 tag but is this the case for h2 tags as well?

    Alan :)

From what i've experienced, bots do index title's with the <h1><h2> etc. html far better than a <div> or a <span> etc. It also understand which is more important.

Not too sure about how many times it can be used though.

so theoretically if H1 is more important in terms of SEO could you not put your entire site in H1 and then use an external CSS so it displays as normal text

the h-tag stands for heading. google would recognize that the whole text
cannot be a heading, so, beware of a punishment

After your title your web pages header tags are the next most important placement for your keywords. Header tags are specified with the HTML code :<h1>,<h2>,<h3>,<h4>,<h5> and <h6>.
Generally speaking , an <h1> tag is considered more important than an <h2> tag which is more important than an <h3> tag, and so on......
Since your header tags will become the headlines on your page, its important that they look natural and appeal to customers who visit your site.
Hope you will clear all about heading tags
    Good Luck:)

Try to keep the breakdown of header tags logical to the page content, and in particular have only one H1 tag on any single page - use H2's, H3's etc after that. Weight seems to be given to the first H1 tag in a page.

H1 and H2 both tags are very important for search engines. h1 means is title of the pages you can use h2 as sub headings...

    Can I use <td class="class1"><h1>test</h1></td> ?
I would like to display to user as normal text while want to show <h1> to search engine, is this a risk to get banned ?

That will be H1 spamming :p

H1 should be descriptive and used imo not more than once per web page.
