    What is the ".gz" that I have seen in the examples of Sitemaps location?

    I have created a Sitemap file named "sitemap.xml" and put it in the root folder. Do I need to do anything else????

    Thanks

    gzip is a unix tool like winzip. if you have shell access to your server:

    $ gzip sitemap.xml
    will compress the file to sitemap.xml.gz (and sitemap.xml will be removed)

    There must be a windows tool that does the same, but I don't know where/how :)
