Some of the new tlds are available for sale now. Are they good in terms of SEO? Does domain extension play any part in SEO?

I specially interested in .onl, .blog, .xyz and .community domain extensions.

How do you guys compare these new tlds to .com or .net?

they will never have the same importance like .com . I don't know in the future, for sure not right now. But considering the impressive discounts you can have if you get them, you can try. Will rank as well, but not in the same way, I think.

^but most of attractive .com domains are already in use or either too long like 'todayinternetmarketing.com' etc etc. I see people now slowly moving to .io etc domains.

so I guess these domains will be future right?

These has been argued several times and on different IM boards.

As an SEO specialist, i can categorically tell you that tlds doesn't really matter.

What matters is your on and off page work, period!!

The only challenge with using this new tlds is,
people are more conversant with the popular ones
and are likely to jerk or look twice or have double thought.

It's been asked and said many times before that the search engines won't discriminate when it comes to extension. I think it's all about personal belief on whether those extensions will truly succeed or not. That is, unless you plan on investing in one of those extensions as part of your brand.. I personally don't care for the .bid extension but a company like eBay probably wants multiple domains in that extension.

anyway, if people when searching will have double thought in front of your extension: This is a big problem. Means your ranking becomes useless. So probably it's like not ranking at all. .com will always be the best and nothing will change so easily in internet habits. Not for the next few years anyway.

ehhh...Needless to say, I'm not sold on them yet. I think allot of the new gTLD's are a complete waste like xyz and bid... .blog is probably one of the better ones. Still, I'll put my money in other extension :)

Very few of those new TLDs will barely last a couple of years before people abandon them completely. In all actuality there are just a few that will probably keep afloat but will never reach the magnitude and popularity of .com (and even .net)

    As for:
That is one side of the coin. Now think of all the available premium domains and all those that expire daily. If you have the good will and a little money to spend (given that this will be the face of your business) then you shouldn't find it so hard to find a good domain to reflect your ideas. ;)

some of these new TLD are good for novelty flips but not much else IMO. .com will reign king until Google decides they own the internet via the Android OS then it will be whatever they feel like serving.. Already feels that way to a large extent.
