do you think i can rank higher for a .info domain keeping in mind that my domain will be a very keyword based two words domain for a niche and same .com domain is already registered years before but it does not have any content on it neither it ranks higher on any serps. so do you think a .info keyword based domain can rank as number one if its other tld extensions are just registered but not hosting any sites. Last thing, my site will be totally based on providing information regarding the niche.
i have the same opinion. but dont know why is there so much debate going on about tlds like mostly people say .com, .net and .org are the most valuable domains, i agree they are more familiar but only .com are the ones that people remember by default not the other two extensions and as in my case it is going to be totally dependable on seo. but the argument here is that above mentioned tlds are the most indexed ones. but i say yes they are because they are the ones most sites are built around what do u think
I personally hate to develop .info domains, because a common mistake by users will be either to enter the .com or .net at the extension instead of .info. They also don't look as good , but there is no different affect on SEO when you pick .info domain.
It would be best to get .com for your domain since this is what most people are familiar with. If you use other domain extensions, you might lose your customers since most of them will be typing in "yoursite.com" instead of "yoursite.info". They would land on a competing site and if the .com site is good, they'll probably keep coming back there and forget about your site.
its typo problem from visitors. normally whatever tld we develop it contributes traffic to same domain of .com ext
I dont like them. I got quite a few as they were cheap. However although you can rank them. In my experience they take alot more time and effort.
.info domains can rank highly on all search engines. .com is worth more if you are looking to sell for a profit. If the domain has your target keywords and its available, I would get it registered. You may want to read a post on choosing domain names. Thanks Brian
.info is generally harder to rank. And it's hard to re-sell the domain later (if you have that in mind)
- .info is a 4 characters long domain name without purpose. - .info is for websites to publish some information on the internet ! Wow ! isn't that great ? Is that what's the internet is all about ? To get information ? - Unfortunately, most of the .info aren't informational, 80% are just parked pages and viral redirects. - .info works like any other gTLDs on search engines but you just won't get type'in traffic. - If the .com is just a parked page and the .info has contents on it then .info should be ranked higher then the .com
What is the strength of other pages which are ranking for that keyword ? If the .com version doesn't have any content then you can easily overtake it.
Ofcourse it happen , as long you do more SEO on keyword, you will on top of it. Unless people do search for .com directly or not you still able to win him with google search result with the keywords.
I dont see having .info domain will cause any porblem as far as seo is concerned.. as an example search for 'regular expression' on google and see what is on the 2nd position
Thanks for all your replies, as most of u stated about the visitors memory being on auto pilot for .com but what i realize after all those views is that i have a chance to rank higher because 1. the .com for same keywords is a parked non used domain 2. my .info is based on the shortest solid keywords for the niche 3. 2nd n 3rd position are .com but with extended words along the keyword and are not strong on popularity basis. not more then 15 back links. 4. i am not relying on keeping repeat visitors im just relying on search results. 5. a good idea for u all could be to think of something not related to internet or any hot topics widely covered, think about something very less covered and with no relation to internet, IT, gadgets, celebrities and blogging as these are the people who cover these topics who are best at seo, but still your topic should have a few thousand searches in a month and this is exactly my case.
I would go with .net or .org before .info if .com is not available. I think alot of people see .info as cheap and unprofessional.
In Europe .info is not considered a bad name, especially, when there are plenty of national tlds .de .it .co.uk. Many of governmet tourist agencies choose .info and they are atop of SERPs, like Austria, Spain or Italy. However in US .info is not regarded as a serious domain, and if I were google, I would put one year quarantine for .info registered at Godaddy from obvious reasons.
