... why does it matter if gay people are spreading aids if straight people do too? Of course gay people spread aids. Does it make their lifestyle any less healthy? No... not when compared with straight people, aids is an equal opportunity virus.
You are denying homosexuals the right to marriage -- refusing to allow them the same rights as straight couples have. Who are you to say what constitutes a marriage? For that matter, who says your way is the "right" way? I'm not saying mine is, but I'd like to know what makes you so sure that denying homosexual marriage is the right choice to make. Having sex with family members and having a sexual relationship with a member of the same sex because you are in love with them don't have any bearing on one another.
Since when was an old book reason to stop someone else from living the life they want to live? I thought we were out of the dark ages.
Hah, you took the words straight from my mouth. Yes, I've heard of the bible. But unlike you, I choose not to base my beliefs and lifestyle choices on something an ancient text tells me is right. (which, by the way, has been translated so many times, the original meaning of much of it has been lost or convienently "forgotten") I'm not attemping to bash your beliefs, because you are free to believe in whatever you choose. However, I am saying that not everyone chooses to believe in what the Bible has to say, so to outlaw something because the Bible says its wrong is a bit ludicrous, in my opinion.
Since the most popular religion in the world was Christianity. Oh, and I'm not a bible nut or anything, I'm just saying this for the sake of a good argument.
Sorry, but using the Bible as an arguement for outlawing homosexual marriage isn't a good arguement. You can't hold everyone to the same standards Christianity holds their believers too, because not everyone is a Christian or believes in what the bible has to say.
*le sigh* Yes, unfortunately I do realize that's the main reason. That doesn't change the fact that I believe it's an ignorant excuse, though.
You mean is, and even so it gives you no right to butt into the lives of other human beings. We live in a society, meaning everyone who is a part of said society is entitled to equal rights. Edit: Eh, figured you were on the anti-same sex marriage side of the argument, don't take this post personal.
Well you're not from the U.S. so this won't apply to you but.....America was built on Christianity and it seemed to work pretty damn well, so why go back now? Now waiting for the immense amount of comments I will get from this.
Haha, it seemed to work pretty well? I don't even know if I have the strength to go there with you right now.
I read what Joel has to say and obviously he feels pretty strong about his views, I don't understand what is the big deal of a guy talking about an issue from his religious perspective. For those who do not believe in God or the Bible, I understand why they cannot see homosexual behavior as sin, but for those who do have religious convictions, the point is clear: Homosexual behavior is considered a sin.
There are many people who do not believe in what the Bible says, which is why there's no possible way the Bible can be used to make a law banning homosexual marriage! You are free to believe in whatever you choose, but to tell someone who may not even believe in the Bible that their lifestyle is a sin is ridiculous.
what right... old text, blah blah blah... what I do in my home is my business yada, yada, yada the next thing you're going to tell me is that abortion is wrong!! and don't get me started on Christmas where does it end? I suppose you want me spey/neuter my pets. water my lawn on even days only, recycle, and not steal cable from my neighbor
I'm familiar enough with U.S. history to give you a run for your money, Canada is practically the 52nd state. Kidding aside, the USA was meant to be a secular state that catered to the freedom of religion. Remember seperation of church and state? That's what the founding fathers had in mind for the U.S. when they created it. Anyways, the reason you should be 'going back' as you say is because the country is completely alienating a whole group of people that are supposedly entitled to the same rights as everyone else. Marriage isn't a privilage, it's a right. It's the greatest expression of love that someone can be a part of and I believe one could successfully argue that it falls under the pursuit of happiness, which is promised to all American citizens under the Declaration of Independance.
and you know b/c why, you were there? *WRONG!! there was nothing secular about it. bust out the constitution and really read it...as will I!! common misconception...separation of church & state is BS...as interpreted today. all it is meant to provide is that the government shall not impose a state wide religion...why do you think they left England in the 1st place...they did not like being told that they had to be X religion.
EXACTLY... So if you cannot impose a state-wide religion, why should the teachings of Christianity be applied to the law regarding the legality of homosexual marriage?
