Hi, Thanks for these great tips.

How much should a directory listing cost? After reading your article the first directory that I came across was: www.ThisIsOurYear.com they have a PR of 7 and they're asking $20 for ten links (not sure whether 10 links are worth more than 1 from the same site?).

    Is this amount fair?

    Many thanks, :)

Do not check the PR of the www thatdirectory com, go to the page you expect to get the link back and check the PR. Even the DMOZ (homepage PR9) is more likely to give you only some PR3-4 if you get in.
But do not forget a basic thing: if you wanna get ranked for a KEYPHRASE, you should use a signature with the very same KEYPHRASE in the anchor and tha page (not the site, but the one page) should have this KEYPHRASE at least ints TITLE tag. If the KEYPHRASE is also in Hx tags and within the text, the better.
Pages... not sites. This as a GRREEAT mistake lots of people do. They buy links from PR4 or PR6 site. But your pages only get portion of PR from the very PAGE your link is put on.
Save your time, this is almost useless. Those robots will find you if you have some backlinks. Why? PM me, I don´t want to reapeat it again and again.
This mujst be something new, I know nothing about it.
    No, it won´t.
But will they also love to buy the used car/viagra/seo service from you?
    Yes. More or less.
This is a good advice, but how to achieve it? (again, a page doesn´t mean the same as a site).
    The best advice at all.
    But BigDaddy is watching you!!!
People are not the same. What one loves, another one will hate. Plain is better than anything else. It´s like (na)palm reading. Little is better than everything.
Patience and consistency will make you a winner.
Another good advice. Find them all and use them all.
OK. Making 300+ posts is much more motivating (and brings more cash for you) than paying 2USD.
I am not familiar with this.
    Nothing to add to this...
    -----------------------

You can see my site for an example to all these www.fantasy-pc.com I have submitted my site to over 200 directories and have more than 200 backlinks and 18 quality real links. I get about 1200 page views a day and about 100 uniques a day with some times more than 200 Uniques. And it has Alexa Traffic Rank which is in the Top 30,000 out of who knows millions! And the best part is I only set my site up for about 2.5 months! So I have been making dedication and hard work towards it![/QUOTE]

You can't get in the top 30,000 in Alexa with 200 uniques and 1000 page views a day. Sometimes, Alexa can be way off.

www.lazyseo.com just dropped some but it did have an alexa rank of 29k a few days ago.

I can tell you uniques per day is less than 200 and it was below 30k.

Point being is yes you can. :)

Here are my top 50 SEO tips and notes based on previous experience:

The Top 3 tips I can give are:

    1) Make your site/pages easy for Search Engines to find and process
    2) Research keywords that customers will use to find your site, and incorporate them within your site.
    3) High Quality In Bound Links. Links from pages with a good page rank value, have relevant content to your site, have your keywords within the link and are on the home page of the site is: The ultimate SEO tool any webmaster can have.

The following tips are just ways to achieve the above 3 goals.

    Domain Names
    4) Include your primary keyword within the Domain name.
    5) Do not separate the keyword and other words within your domain name using a -, for example: cheap-hotels-london.com
    6) Old domain names carry more weight than new ones.
    7) Try and buy a old domain name if possible. Search for your keyword and “Under construction” and email the webmaster, you may be able to buy the domain name if the owner has no plans. Circumstances change.
    8) Never change your domain name if your site is listed within the search engines
    9) Use a .co.uk domain name if your business is targeted for the UK market, otherwise use .com

    Sites Pages
    10) Use quality content, the better the content, the better the site is for your visitors and the Search Engines.
    11) Always use HTML if possible.
    12) Keep your URL’s simple: Search Engines do not like long domain names that include characters such as: ?=soeker&new?
    13) Store Session ID’s in cookies rather than URL’s
    14) Use a flat directory structure – Max ¾ sub folders
    15) Use a Site Map
    16) If your site has more than 100 pages, use separate site maps
    17) Use a robot.txt file
    18) Avoid using Frames at all cost
    19) Keep Flash to a minimum
    20) Avoid Java script if possible

    Keywords
    21) There are many tools for finding relevant keywords, but only one is the industry leader – www.wordtracker.com
    22) Be specific with your keywords
    23) Put your shelf in your customers shoes when researching keywords
    24) Look at the keywords from your web site stats
    25) Check the keywords your competition are using
    26) Cover all keyword variations
    27) Look into miss-spellings
    28) Consider merged and hyphenated keywords
    29) Be descriptive with your keywords

    Keyword placement
    30) Title Tags
    31) Header Tags
    32) Body Text
    33) Link Anchor text
    34) Meta Tags
    35) Only use a small number of keywords per page
    36) ALT Tags

    Link building
    37) Make sure your keywords are in the anchor text of all links
    38) Links from pages with High Page rank carry more weight
    39) Engage in Reciprocal links, but not too many!
    40) Make sure links, either reciprocal or one way, are from pages with similar content as your site
    41) To find link building partners, search for your keyword along with +add link, +submit link, +add site, submit URL and so on.
    42) Use Direct marketing such as emails to request for a link
    43) When writing to other webmasters, include a reason why it will benefit them or there users if they link to you
    44) Offer other sites free content, or a review in exchange for a link
    45) Submit your site to directories
    46) Use article submission to obtain links
    47) Avoid Link farms or anything similar

    Other Tips
    48) Analyse your competition – What are they doing that is making there site rank well?
    49) Always put your user first for example: Make sure your site is easy to navigate
    50) Use a Blog

    Thanks for all the feedback.
Now I am not perfect, I realized the Alexa Rank is wrong as well. Please don't bother with that. It is my fault.

Nice 50 tips you have there by the way and thanks for adding.

Also I have a question. If you devoloped all you rlink building on a subdomain, but then recently bouhgt a real domain and gave the old subdomain a 301 redirect, how does this affect SEO and PR?

If you do a permanent 301 redirect it will pass all PR.

I am finding this very hard to join and use. I am really finding it hard work.

Apart from that, thanks for the information and i will take note of it more. I have found that adding your link to blogspot-based blogs, piczo places, myspace and other things also work, but they require a lot of extra work which most people do not bother doing.

This was not mine, I copied it from Ratman´s post, anyway, I suppose that within webmasters niche it is possible to have 30K Alexa ranking with only 200 uniques daily.

On the other hand I have a site (construction/building related) that used to have almost 2000 uniques daily before Bigdaddy but reached only 1 million and something in Alexa.

Alexa gets their stats from their toolbar users. These are webmasters usually. If your site is "ceramic painting" related, you can have much more visitors than a weblog about adsense, nevertheless, your Alexa rank will be worse than rank of that blog, just because your site´s topic is not that attractive for Alexa toolbar users.

Just on point 4, submit to search engines, I don’t quite agree, the best really is to let your site be found by them.
There are only 3 search engines: Google, Yahoo, MSN, the rest ignore.
To help Google find your site, open a blog in Blogger, write about your site, make a nice text link with the keyword you want.
Google will crawl your site in a few hours.
Then go to Yahoo, open an account and, the first thing you have to do is click the “Add Content” this can be found somewhere on your 'MY Yahoo"
You just add the url of the FEED that you got from your blog settings.
Now Yahoo will crawl your site.
MSN I haven’t found a way yet, but still I recommend don’t submit your site to any search engine!
First it takes weeks to have them come to your site, and with the methods above you have them in hours.
SECOND I have read some articles from top SEO's and all advice against submitting sites to search engines, arguing that it could even penalize the site.
Another simple way to have your site crawled is: try to find a site with PR4 and ask them if they can put a link to your site for 10 days, offer them free membership or something, whatever you sell, or even buy a link, it should not cost more then 20 bucks.
10 days should be more then enough to have your site crawled by all the major search engines.

    Don't submit your site!

Ok you can add this to your site with my link and credit of course.

By the way working a sitemap is generally hard.

First you need to go to Google Webmaster tools and then you need to create a sitemap.

To create a sitemap there are many generators available.

Then upload the sitemap to your root DIR, then afterwards verify it on GOOGLE webmaster tools, thats it and in a few days it will index your pages with Googlebot.
