What do you mean, "less risky?" Also, is there a quick way to know if they are do follow vs. no follow?

edu backlinks can be so good and strrenghty, but its hard to find them using the site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment” string, as most of this are no follow, the quick way is to find forum with edu.

 

Great tips, many do not use the search engines to find links like they should.
