    Hello All,

I recently bought a website that was already set up for affiliate marketing with Amazon / CB. The sites topic is dieting and eating healthy.

I'm still pretty new too the whole SEM / SEO / AM field so I am looking for some guidance as too what steps I should take with this site too drive a ton of traffic too it and start producing some income? The site is a WP site and has SEO plugins in such.

I would post it here so you can get a better idea as to what i'm dealing with but I dont wanna get in trouble! lol

    Cheers,
    Mike:cool:

    Hey Mike,

Welcome aboard! And congrats on moving forward to getting site. There are lots of ways to drive traffic to a website. One of the first questions is do you want methods you can do yourself or do you want suggestions for services you can purchase?

For example, for free you could post articles at various article sites, search out other websites that discuss dieting and eating healthy and join in on the conversation responding to questions or making helpful comments with a signature teaser and link that points to your site, you could setup a Facebook page and use your connections to help spread the news! These are just some of the free methods available.

If you want suggestions about search engine optimization (seo), then you can either take the time to learn techniques or hire someone to do some of the work for you.

This is a good forum - feel free to ask questions!

I would suggest reading SEO section and trying to implement some of the tactics shared there. Later you will develop your own SEO strategy on how to generate traffic fast and secure way.

For proven traffic, you may try Adwords but you'll have to do some research and ensure you don't bid on high priced keywords. Just make sure the keywords you bid for cost less than your promoted product.

I also recommend the seo section. Also remember that getting a decent amount of traffic will take time. That is a key. There are a lot of seo resources online.

    Hey All!

    I really appreciate everyone's response.

I am going to try free traffic for a start. I've already tweeted my direct link too my site, I will try to create a Facebook, But I am going to primarily try too use back links from posting on blogs and forums and try too submit my site into website directories and such. I have no problem paying a little for traffic if it'll out weigh obviously the costs and such. I'll also make sure to take a look at the SEO section.

I have to replace some links on the site and get things organized but i'm going to be working on the site tonight for 3-4 hrs than probably another 2-3. Is the best way to track the sites stats Analytics?

    Thanks guys

    Mike

Try t integrate with social media to get traffics and better interact with your readers and followers, and most important is make sure they back to your site again.
If you looking for SEO, it would be best that you start to learn from onsite SEO while your site is a blog. New content , rich keywords , good meta tag will help you alot.

Ahh yeah, I think at this point i'm more flustered with just getting WP set up. I don't really have a ton of experience with it and there's sooo much stuff and plugins and crap i have no idea where too begin lol. I feel slightly lost.

This is all good advice so I guess it will depend on your budget. PPC is the quickest way to get traffic but the most costly. You also can't have any adsense on your site when you use adwords so you may want to look at other PPC networks. If you're starting small, then I'd go with social media to get started while you learn SEO.

This might be a dumb question but, is there anyone on the forums that offers a service that will clean up the site for me and kinda get the site in order for me? i have no problem back linking and running FB / Twitter pages and such but I feel like I should change the layout of the site and clean it up, possibly even simplify it. I also have no idea what keywords the previous owner was targeting really since there's quite a few. I guess overall i'm looking for a little guidance since I myself didn't create the site from scratch. lol

    Cheers

    Mike!

Last year I found a guy who told me he would guide me and teach me everything about SEO. I spent many hours with him. I paid him for his time and he taught me a lot! However, I didn't make a dime! I had sites on the first page of Google. But nobody bought a damn thing! I came to a conclusion that the best thing to do is learn as much as you can, make all the mistakes you need to make and learn how to do this on your own. I don't think that guy will ever talk to me again. I got frustrated with him and he blamed everything on me. There's a lot to learn but don't give up! I was kinda hoping there was somebody who would teach me how to be successful. I didn't find anyone! I won't give up! I'm going to make an online business! Anyway, I hope this helps!

    Thanks Sean!

That helps a lot and I think that's a good idea. I will still probably at some point once I get the site better situated pay for some back links too boost things a bit and maybe have someone analyze the site for me for a second opinion but I suppose learning the whole ordeal in the first place.

    Cheers,

    Mike
