Hello. I have a mybb forum. I want to add a chatroom at the top of my forum. I need guests to able to chat. I believe it will add more chance that they will participate. What i want is to build the community again. Fb group affected the participation on my forum. Some say it is not advisable because it will give spam problems ( I hope captcha can be used for it). I am thinking if there is a plugin or any other way to add a chatroom even it is not a plugin of mybb. Thanks in advance.

chatbox plugin easily available in the mybb but not sure about permission for guest chat if you want this feature you need to re-code this plugin.

You mean a shoutbox? There are my shoutbox add-ons for mybb. Is it mybb 1.6 or 1.8?

It is mybb1.8. There are lot of chatbox but they dont allow guests. I even contacted them and told me it's not possible because spams will be a problem. It's ok even it is not a plugin of mybb just please teach me how to embed it at the forum. thanks

I suspect there are two main reasons why site owners don't implement chat rooms
    • they tend to be dead most of the time - after the first flurry of excitement at having a new toy, users stop using them
    • you want people to be adding content to your site and chat transcripts aren't usually saved and indexed

I agree with @sarahk that forum chat rooms are inactive most of the time. The chat rooms/shoutboxes are hardly ever used, even on large forums. I am on a large forum that has a shoutbox, and there is about 1 shout per month.
