What do you guys think about guest blogging or adding comments to a blog as a form specifically intended to drive traffic to your site. I am interested in doing this but dont know where to start. I have a blog site and am trying to beef up the traffic.

adding comment and guest blogging is a great way to drive traffic. You want to give good content in your comments, just make sure to read the article, and give some good feedback. Leave a comment with and <a href="URL">Your Anchor Text</a> tag so you can put a link to your site there.

When it comes to guest blogging, just contact the site owner preferably by phone, much more professional, but email is ok if you can not find a phone # and ask them if you can write and article for their blog, most of the time they will be glad to have you post on their blog, just gives them more content. Make sure to include an author bio so you can put a link back to your site there driving traffic that way.

To start you blog search I like to use google alerts so I can get notified when new posts in my niche are being published so I can go and comment on them, and this also provides you with a good list of blogs to start contacting to publish your own articles.

    Hope this helped
    Cheers

Ok two questions: I do a guest blog. I want to create the author bio? How would I do this? I'm not sure how I do the guest blog anyway. I just submit my article and they put the coding to fit their site, correct? So I would just write another paragraph at the end tht is my bio?
Also,on google alerts. If my niche is say fitness. Would I just type fit was to the search query and my email or aunt hung more like fitness blog posts?

To create the author bio you answered that question your self just add a short soft pitch to the end of your article that links back to your site with anchor text the code I showed you above. A soft pitch is just giving a nice call to action to get readers to your site.

You are going to want to contact the site owner in order to set up how they will need the article formatted, usually no formatting is needed, just talk with the site owner and they will let you know what you need. Make sure to tell them about your author bio, and make sure they put it in the article this just comes from communication.

When using Google alerts use broad or longtail keywords to find the blogs you are looking for like the health niche as you mentioned above and targeting fitness I would use keywords like: "get fit", "work out", "weight loss", "lose weight", "How to get fit", "fitness training", and so on.

    Cheers

    Hi,

If you are writing a post on someone else's blog, then you are a guest blogger. A blog owner may allow guest bloggers to post on his website for a few reasons. One may be that he is too busy to post regularly himself. Or he invites guest bloggers to add variety to his blog. Sometimes he may be able to get an established blogger to be a guest blogger to get more traffic.

When you write a guest post you need to write a full length article to post in the blog of somebody else.

The positive aspects are: you get benefit from the traffic of this person, you increase the likability that somebody will click on the link you add to promote, the link by itself will have more relevance (it has more authority) than any blog commenting you do.

The negative aspects are: you have to write a full article and you need to contact blog owners that need and want your blog post.

So the recommendation is to choose a blog with good traffic.

    Blog comments:

Positive: you can write many comments in a short period of time, they are shorter and can add up very fast. You can do it in as many blogs as you want (if they have commenting on)

Negative: normally the power of a link from a blog comment is not very high (there are many others adding their links too), you won't get a lot of direct traffic this way (it depends on the blog but don't expect it)

Specifically for driving traffic? Guest posting.

However, commenting is a great way to get PR1 or higher backlinks without much effort. (As long as you're leaving good comments.)

That's if you're commenting on posts with a lot of other comments. On most moderated blogs it's not rare to find PR1+ posts with 20, 10, or even 5 or fewer comments.

Guest posting, if you have something of value to say, is a great way to get more visitors. As long as you are guesting on a blog that is fairly well-known and have a decent number of followers.
on the other hand, commenting is quick and works too. Maybe you will not get the same amount of visitors you will get from guest posting, but if your comment is relevant and you have something worthwhile to say, it can definitely drive people to check out your site.

Both are beneficial. Determine first your Marketing Objectives then have a database of blog sites wherein you can guess blog and have blog commenting. Blog sites in your database must of course related to the topic of your website.

Adding guest comments to blogs is a great way to drive traffic, however, don't make it a generic advertisement. Spamming blogs with advertisement comments get ignored. Everyone hates them.

It's best you offer a good reply targeted to the blog and try and drop in your site subtly without directly advertising.

Actually those tricks are used to build backlinks (the main intention is that). However, we may receive the referral traffic if our things are something useful, interesting, helpful, entertaining.
