Guess my YPN experiment will be short lived

I signed up with YPN almost two weeks ago.
Since then I have given them between 7,000 to 10,000 impressions a day from 1,000 to 1,200 unique visitors (between 6k to 7k pages served).
I have received between 0 - 12 clicks a day (on average 3 during the last 7 days).
When I had Google running I saw way more clicks, which seems to be expected due to better targetting.
I have to say the ads are not that much off (pretty much on-topic), but 0 clicks for almost 8k impressions seems unlikely.
Maybe yahoo doesn't count my clicks as valid (Mostly US traffic though) but so what. I will let it run a little more and play around a little but I think I will ditch it again.

Anyways, this is to all you asking why you cannot get YPN in your country:
    Forget YPN, it sucks!

I didnt even bother placing the code on my pages when I got accepted, even when they contacted me a number of times asking me the status.

Yeah sure. Thats why most of my traffic is from returning visitors, because my content is shitty. Thanks for the compliment.

Exactly, 3 more for you. May you forever dwell in your riches.

The YPN forum is by far the unfriendliest (not refering to anyone in particular)

I believe he thought that ads not target content, not that your content is shitty :)

In my OP i specifically statet that they were pretty much on topic. Either he didn't bother reading before replying or he was saying my content is shitty.

Dunno. I only had ads on a sub section of that site for a couple of days (lot less impressions but still more clicks). The EPC was lower but at least I got clicks.

And thanks for being the first one who gives a damn.

I know how you feel. When adsense first came out I jumped all over it and only ran it for about 2 days before realizing how bad it payed. I switched back to AdSense but I left it as a 3%/97% split.

Then one day ypn started really rocking for me. Now I am about 30-70% split in yahoos favor. I would sugest not giving up on yahoo and always using some sort of rotation.

If your website is really niche oriented you might want to look into direct sponsorship

Thanks for the tip. I guess the next step would be to implement geo-targetting and see what the result is.
I am also aware that my placement is not for best CTR (I don't use the rectangles) but I really don't want to put this on my users.

I guess my point was this: The ads are almost as targetted as they were with Adsense but I only get a fraction of the clicks.

Glad to see your site back, and thanks for putting this thread back on track.

Thats odd , and the colors and placement is the same as when you had adsense ?

When I hear stuff like this , it kinda makes me want to believe that maybe YPNs software is broken and we sometimes dont get all our clicks counted. But then again man, YPN dont accept clicks from out of the USA unlike adsense ;)

Yes, everything is the same. Almost all traffic is US based (US traffic is over 30 times more than the next in line)
I don't really believe that yahoo is cheating. Even though the ads look relevant to me, I think even subtle differences can make a huge impact.
This again leads me to believe that I need to get off my lazy bum a$$ and start experimenting a bit :)

    Right there with you.
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=160043

I switched most of pages back to AS. Boom, immediately started seeing the clicks come back to even better than they were before I switched to YPN. Same traffic being recorded, same advertisers showing on both ad networks, but AS actually credits my clicks. 97.33% US traffic today, all the rest Canada.

    Insanity.

As I said, I doubt that a company like Y! risks cheating their publishers. I think the differences must be very subtle. Even though my ads appear to be on target, I have asked myself if I would click them.
Somehow the font of the google ads looks cleaner (hard to explain, it looks more crisp on a high res screen) and the ad texts seem to be written more compelling.
Further G. is able to narrow down what my site is about even better. Its not 100% the same ads as Y! and even though both are on target, G. ads seem to be just a notch better.
Then I have noticed that it makes a big difference where the ads are placed on your page for Yahoo to figure out the content (go figure).
My conclusion: I think it takes more of an effort for Y! ads (not just dropping them on a page).
I am thinking if you use div tags to place the Y! ad inside your content but then move it with css to the right place the targetting will be much better.
Unfortunately thats not so easy with my CMS

    I introduced geotargetting.
Now YPN is getting only 50% of the impressions (which strikes me as odd since AWStats reports 80%-90% US traffic) but the revenue is up and I am even getting more clicks (go figure). The overflow falls into my Google account that gets shown in countries outside the US.
On that one site YPN is now defenitely in the lead (earnings wise that is).
I have worked a bit on targetting (about 20min) and I think I saw a return on that too. I guess it takes a little more tweaking to get YPN back on track and to exceed Google, but it seems its doable.
Thanks for those of you who encouraged me to stick with YPN.

P.S.: I wish YPN had section targetting like Adsense.
