Registry is made up of seven files in windows 2000/XP/Vista. These files are stored in the folder C:/windows/system32/config. All accounts in windows have the correlative registry information that is set in the path C:/windows/profiles/username/ntuser.dat. All files of registry have a copy. This character inherits the security of windows 9x.

You can use regedit, it's a tool that lets you modify your registry data.

I don't know about Windows Vista and beyond, but in XP and below, this is what is used by default should you want to change/look at a few things in your registry.
