I happen to be good friends with three gentlemen who are excellent writers. All have at least Masters degree is their fields and one guy has a phd in English.

I suggested they try this realm and after getting their feet wet have really enjoyed it.

However , IMHO, you are getting much more than you would be to outsource overseas and they should be compensated as such.

The can do anything from casual writing to full out researched articles.

Just wanted to throw this out there if anyone is interested.

    Thats $12.50 for a 500 word article.

Not too expensive for techy article... but way too expensive for general keyword articles.

If they are as good as you say they are then 2.5 cents a word is too little. Why would an MA be prepared to write a 500 word article for $12.50?

Agreed, it really depends if they are going to be doing actual "copywriting" or just keyword articles. Also, the prices they get will depend on where they find their clients.

Very true, If you can get on the books with some established "city" companies they could afford to pay you that price...

I cant see many in this forum paying out like that.. theres just too many companies /freelancers being able to provide the same for alot less... my last quote was $4 for 400 word articles... general keyword articles.

they are not as interested in doing keyword articles. i personally hire them for professional writes when i have large sites with content that needs to be gone through or if i have an idea that i can verbalize or a site that needs verbage.

i dont see much point in keyword writing...i say write a great article that is well research and original, and adjust for SEO later.

I have seen some of those $4-5 articles and they were really poor writing. Just remember that the only way a user knows you is by what is on your pages.

I guess those "articles" are okay for quick and dirty Adsense sites, but not for serious topical sites, IMO.

I'm glad to see that there are some people around who understand the importance of using quality text.

Maybe someone who understands the proper usage of "steep learning curve" and the common oxymoron "quantum leap".;)

I certainly hope you're kidding. ;) With their educational background, that's ridiculously too little. I write articles for $.35/word for non-exclusive online rights only, with no copyright transfer. If they have the education and experience you say, they shouldn't be looking on forums for general writing gigs. Approach major sites in their niche instead, and believe me, you'll find plenty willing to pay what they're worth. :) DP isn't the place to go for things like that. If you don't want to randomly scout your own potential clients, use a site like www.writersmarket.com to get listings, rates, etc. for online and offline publishers in a variety of industries. It's a few dollars a month, but it's the best resource you'll find if they're serious. I recommend approaching places on your own though. Somewhere else to look that occasionally posts something with a professional rate is www.journalismjobs.com, or every once in a while www.mediabistro.com.

    Thanks Jenn,

I only posted on here because it is all I know atm. Dr Katz has a baby on the way and has been tutoring like crazy to make extra money. Jeff is paying for his second masters degree.

I am just trying to help them out. So it looks like you pointed me in the right direction.

I do get something out of it though. They proofread my clients' sites and turn my half ass written thoughts into nice material.
