I just found out about Grid hosting and I'm considering switching. Seems like a great alternative to a dedicated server. I first read about it on the Mosso site and their "Cloud Hosting" but they charge extra after 3mil requests which would get used up pretty quickly. Anyone have any experience with Media Temple or know of anyone else that offers it this type of hosting?
Well, mainstream grid offerings have much room to mature...MT is doing good if not better at the moment. And such systems have a few downsides as well.
Mosso changed their pricing to 10,000 compute cycles per month instead of 3,000,000 hits. They claim that 10,000 is equivalent to a 1.2ghz server, each additional compute cycle is $.01, so no price increase or decrease on additional use. So far, very happy with Mosso. There are hiccups, but support is great and hiccups are to be expected on the bleeding edge.
I've been using Mosso for quite sometime now. In the beginning they had some real bad up and downs. They have been really stable now for quite awhile though.
I use them for the last 8 months grid server is pretty reliable and powerful for its money but for mission critical sites I would recommend their dedicated virtual (a VPS really) read my media temple reviews if you want more info
I've actually been using the Grid Server at Media Temple or the past few months and I've been really happy with it. They keep you informed of any issues that are going on and I haven't had any problems with the so far.
