One of my pages: http://www.how-to-travel-the-world.com/finding-a-place-to-stay/ seems to be "grey barred" though a few weeks ago it had a pr3 on it. I checked my webmaster stats and google indexes 52 links for that page. Why is it grey barred? Doesnt that bar mean that the page isnt indexed?
the grey bar means it doesnt have a page rank, maybe youve changed the url? even if its only slightly, a change in url is a brand new page to google therefor wont have a pr until the next update
the url has remained the same. nothing is different. i'm confused! could it mean i'm being penalized by google?
how long have you had the page up? is it possible the page rank you used to see was just a slight glitch in the toolbar software that seen the page rank not update when you navigate from page to page? I had a few major updates with most of my toolbars today The grey bar though deffinately means your site hasnt had a page rank update while its been in googles index
Your pages were "GrayBarred" for duplicate content. Run each page thru CopyScape and look where you copied the content from. If an internal page is "Graybarred", it usually will be that the content has been copied from another indexed page.
Interesting catanich. If I change the page will they get reindexed and, if i get links pointed to it, will that mean i can get pr back?
Yeah, I would say duplicate content and your domain name looks spammy to Google with all of those dashes -
I'll go rewrite the page to avoid the dup content issue. The url was bought before i knew dashes made things look spammy but i have a lot of links from a lot of authoritative travel sites so i think i can get around the dash issue since i have a lot of legit links pointing to me. not articles or directories but legit sites. so google will probably put 2 and 2 together and realize this isnt a spam site.
The pagerank button in the google toolbar is not accurate in anyway. Who knows what the reason for the grey bar in the pagerank is, but it doesn't matter as long as the website is still performing well. Visit some "pagerank checkers" and they should give you a more accurate read. I checked the page you mentioned on one of them and it said it was a pagerank 4.
