Green Reps

I was just thinking about this.. I give out several green reps each day lately whenever someone was helpful or genuinely tried to be. However, what's the deal with those among us who would not even think of responding with green to

    a) good posts that did answer their questions?
    b) PM's that their sites are down or their adsense wording violates the TOS and they better change it before they come crying to AdSense forum here complaining that they got banned
    c) making a not-so-anonymous donation (monetary or links)!

Sometimes people don't even respond to the kind gestures above, let alone reciprocate with green rep. This bugs me. What's up with these folks? The only excuse I see is that they are not aware of the DP's Reputation system...

    What do you guys think?

[EDIT] Sorry, just realized this belongs to General Chat or Underground forums rather than Suggestions & Feedback[/EDIT]

I wasn't aware of the rep system for the first few months after joining so I guess many new members would be the same.

I wouldn't let it bug you does a few green pixels make any difference to the quality that we all enjoy here.

I don't get this...Are you complaining because you told someone their site was in violation and they didn't give you a green.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't understand this thread

Well, it's not entirely about wanting to get some. It's more of a psychological thing, I guess. I find it a bit rude to see this behaviour.

How can you see it. Rep is anonymous

How do you know I'm not giving rep for some of those things?

Unless they are newbies, I doubt that they are unaware of the rep system. I think the General Chat forum has more visitors than the others and when a thread there has caught on fire there is a lot of rep of both colours flying around.

I have green repped for supportive answers even though the thread had nothing to do with me and I know others do too. I certainly think if you go to the bother of letting someone know their site is down or their site is in violation of AS TOS that you deserve some green and for donations too of course.

For saving your ass with AdSense or for bringing your attention to your site being down (which means loss of revenue, visitors, etc)

I see, so this thread is just about you. And based on that you are complaining about everyone.

When I have a smooth transaction or someone has a great or really helpful post, I give them a green. But I don't demand one back.

If someone PM'd me to tell me my site violates Google TOS but I don't agree, I am now obligated to give them a green??

Dev you are missing something. Rep is given for being funny usually. Also, the first months everyone was dishing out 1 point. Now if someone 'at the top' reps you it can have 10* the power..

Combined with the different nationalities, personalities etc... just dont worry about it. If it goes red people probably wont trust you apart from that it doesnt meam alot.

I don't get that though. Why start a thread to say you don't get green reps for donating? There are a lot of people here that donate both time and money because they want to. They don't start a thread on it though.

Dev isn't complaining about getting a red, hes complaining about not getting enough greens for PMing people.

"what's the deal with those among us who would not even think of responding with green?" does this say, "i am compaining about everyone?" or somplaining at all? If I see that someone is stingy about green reps towards me whenever, I tend to think that it's his/her style towards others as well. So, no it's not about me.

Good. That's the way it should be. I do the same. And I am not suggesting "demanding onne back"

That's fine if you don't agree with my comment. It sucks if you do agree, take action but don't bother to say thanks.

Don't you think this would be more effective to take up with the person you feel owes you a green?

You can get red + green for the same post. I sometimes give out rep for good/ helpful posts, sometimes I cant be bothered.

If you feel someone isnt polite with you, just dont help them again. Nothing to do with rep.
